“Hey, man,” Kill says, putting out a hand as he steps in. “Sorry, had some shit to deal with.”

Within twenty minutes, there’s a pot of coffee on, and Jay shows up, also looking worse for the wear.

“Nothing on the streets,” Jay tells us as he pours himself a mug. “Not even a hint about the Iron Elite being a part of what happened, no one has a clue.”

“We found a few things yesterday, but I don’t know how helpful it is,” Echo chimes in.

I sit back and listen, though we went over all this yesterday.

“So the guy that took Kinsey goes by Eli now, but he wasn’t born with that name. He changed his name about sixteen years ago when he was in his late twenties. He was Vincent Pianto before that.”

“How is some asswipe changing his name going to help?” Jay grumbles.

“I didn’t say it would,” Echo points out, “but his reason for changing his name does explain a few things about why he’s so obsessed with Kinsey. Apparently, he was actually institutionalized for a few years because of an ASPD diagnosis. Or rather, an incident that resulted from it.”

“ASPD?” Kill asks.

“Antisocial Personality Disorder,” she clarifies.

“Great, so the guy is basically a psychopath,” Jay replies.

“Not quite, but yeah, they’re closely related. Neurotic and obsessive behavior, manipulative tendencies, and lack of guilt or remorse are all the things they talk about when a person has ASPD. From what Atlas has told me, that sounds pretty bang on.”

I give a tight nod of confirmation, but I’m barely keeping my shit together.

“Anyway, I guess he had some girlfriend who dumped him and he lost it, which is how he ended up in an institute. When he got out, he must have changed his name, and I’d guess he found the Iron Elite not long after. They would love a guy like him so it doesn’t surprise me.”

“How the fuck does that explain anything?” Jay asks again. Echo scrolls through her phone for a moment before holding up a picture, and Jay’s eyes widen.

“This was the girlfriend. Looks a bit like our Kinsey, huh?”

I don’t listen to her next words, my mind racing. I thought of it all last night, but hearing it again, realizing what kind of position that puts Kin in….

I should have known there was more to that fucker’s obsession with her, but I didn’t bother to look into it. Just figured he’d get over it. I never expected him to enact his psychotic fucking revenge schemes onmy fucking woman.

“Enough fucking around,” I interrupt, standing and pushing my chair back. “I can’t fucking sit here anymore.”

“What do you propose?” Echo replies, and I want to smack the sass right the fuck out of her. “We have no clue where to—”

“I think I have something,” Riot interrupts. “It maybe nothing, but the Pianto family had some property upstate. Parents died years ago, and I can’t find any deebs except something on the original sale, but it stands to reason their son would have inherited it.”

“Where?”

“A few hours north, perfect spot if you wouldn’t want to be found.”

The five of us are on our feet in seconds.

“You two stay here, in case we’re wrong,” I say to Riot and Jay who both nod. “Riot, keep fucking looking. I’m not putting all our eggs in one fucking basket, even if this does sound likely.”

“Guess that means we’re going on a road trip.” Echo winks, wrapping an arm around Kill. He rolls his eyes, but puts his arm around her.

“We can help,” Kill says to me, exuding lethal confidence.

“Get our girl back,” Jay cheers us on.

Even as I’m walking out the door, I can’t help but wonder if we’re already too fucking late.
