They didn't deserve this. I should have done more to stop this.

This was all my fault.

My car skidded to a stop outside of the factory. It was one of many we had, but Benny was here quite a bit, helping head up the drug operation. I flung myself out, racing into the building. Slamming the door open, I looked around.

It was quiet… way too quiet. It was not normal and I stopped, looking around in confusion. My heart was pounding so hard that spots appeared in my vision.

I grabbed my hair, ripping on the strands as I walked in random directions, trying to figure out what to do.

A creak behind me scared me, causing me to whip out the gun I had stashed in my hoodie and pointing it at the person.

Benny threw his hands up, his eyes firmly on my face.

"Bro…"

I lowered the gun, letting out a shaky breath. "Fuck's sake, Benny. Don't do that."

His gaze fell to the floor, face dropping. "The Spades attacked. Everyone took off."

"Are they safe?" I asked with urgency.

"Blair's safe," he nodded.

I stepped forward, grabbing his shoulder roughly. "What about Quinn? Where's Quinn, Benny?"

Benny stepped back, turning and walking towards the back rooms. "Come with me."

I followed him, holding my breath as a chill swept through my body. Dead gang members scattered our pathway and I had to wonder in my state of panic, how I missed the signs when I rushed into the building.

We headed down to the underground basement, the section the Hunters built for hiding and interrogating when at the factory. In my gut, I knew something was wrong but I hoped… no, fucking prayed I was wrong.

Benny stopped outside a door, looking at me slowly.

"She's in there, bro."

I moved forward, rushing to get inside but Benny's hand on my chest halted me.

"Benny, let me go in!"

"Bro… listen to me. I know you lied. When I asked you if you were attached, you said no. But I know you. We've been friends for a long time."

I looked at him, panic seeping into every nerve in my body. "What are you saying, Benny? Spit it out."

He swallowed, falling silent as he let go of me, reaching to open the door slowly.

I threw Benny a quick look before stepping into the room.

The air was sucked out of my lungs. There was blood everywhere, the smell of death lingering.

But I was used to seeing blood. I had seen it a million times before. But what broke me wasn't the blood…

It was the pool of it under Quinn's still, pale body.

Chapter 7

EverytimeIclosedmy eyes, all I could see was Quinn’s lifeless body in my arms. I was lucky that the Spades had attacked, clearing out the building because there was no way I would have been able to hold myself together. I would have slaughtered them all, took each and every life from their pathetic bodies.

Benny had stood back, listening to me scream as I cradled her still warm body. But it wasn’t warm and full of life like I had come to know. She was empty, much like me.
