I had wondered how long it would take before my father contacted me. I had hoped that perhaps he wouldn’t even notice my absence. But I rarely got what I wanted.

Asshole: Meet me as soon as possible.

My phone nearly ended up colliding with the wall as I clicked out of the message, but thankfully I resisted the urge to throw it. I’m so mad that I have no idea how I’ll be able to face him. The only possible solution is to get high and drunk beforehand, but that meant running the risk of blurting out something I shouldn’t. Probably that he’s an asshole and I hoped he died.

Benny leaned over my shoulder, looking at the message.

“You going to go?” he asked.

I sighed. “What choice do I have?”

"Want me to come?”

I shook my head. “Keep laying low. I’ll let you know how it goes. In the meantime, keep an eye out for any more information we could use. We can’t afford to let this drag on for too long. It ends now.”

“You’re late,” my father snapped, looking up at me from his desk.

I smelled of alcohol and MJ, but I made it, and so far, I haven’t blown off anyone’s head on my way in.

“I was doing school work.”

Lucas scoffed, twirling a knife in between his fingers. “That’s not important. Your focus is getting weak. Do I need to remind you of your place?”

“Do whatever you feel best,” I responded flatly.

His eyes narrowed as he glared at me, before pausing the twirling. He pulled his arm back, flinging the knife at me.

I growled as the tip pierced my upper thigh. Immediately, I ripped it out, watching as blood dripped down my jeans.

“Do not speak to me like that again, Levi. You are a disgrace to us. I won’t hesitate to end you if you don’t do your job. You best remember that.”

“Fine,” I said through clenched teeth. “Is that all?”

Lucas stood slowly, a sinister smile breaking out on his face. “For now. But make no mistake. I won’t forgive any more indiscretions.”

I turned, stalking out of the office as I headed from the entrance. Before I could reach it, Gid stepped into my path.

“Don’t you want to stay and hang with us?” he taunted. I noticed Hef in the corner, laughing at our exchange.

“Fuck off, Gid,” I sneered. “I have better things to do.”

He snorted. “Really? Like what? Last I checked, your friends have left you. One is banging the Spades and the other is… well, dead.”

My fists balled up, my eyes darkening as I glared at Gid. He knew he was getting under my skin, the smirk on his face growing by the second.

“Sorry, not sorry. But if it helps, Hef helped her in her final moments,” he said, lowering his voice with a grin. “Held her really still so that I wouldn’t miss my shot. So, you should be thanking us. We put her out of her misery instead of making her suffer. You’re welcome.”

“Fuck you,” I hissed, stepping past him so I could leave before I did something uncontrollable.

Hef laughed as I stormed out the front door, his voice ringing in my ears with Gid’s words.

I’d make them pay. All of them.

Chapter 8

Withexamsstartingtoapproach, I was getting nervous. I had kept a low profile with Benny, sending off paperwork to Blair and planning how to get my revenge.

I was really pleased with myself. Hef, the big dumb moron, was so easy to manipulate. After the encounter with him and Gid at HQ, I arranged to meet him. But he didn’t know it was me. I had set up a fake dating app, pretending to be someone from Woodlands and hooked him like a pathetic fish.
