Gun shots started ringing out and I looked to my right to find familiar faces. My old peers from Argento High, approaching us with guns. They were opening fire on the crowd, people dropping everywhere.

“Fuck!” I screamed, dropping down to take cover. I looked around urgently, trying to spot Blair when I saw her run from the wreckage of the stage. Around me, I found Xanderson, Cadman and Parker with their guns drawn, firing back at the oncoming attackers.

In the crowd, Spades were also firing but Hunters were appearing out of nowhere. There were heaps of them, there was no way we could fight this with this many innocent people in the way.

People were going to die.

I spotted Gid in the crowd, his eyes on Blair as she disappeared into a building. He had a grin on his face, whispering something to his friends around him before stalking after her.

Fuck that. He’s not hurting her. I won’t let him.

I took off after them both, weaving in and out of screaming, scared people and dead bodies. I tried not to look at any of them, I couldn’t bear to recognize them right now. This was personal. This was my school and my friends.

Shoving the building door open, I couldn’t see Blair or Gid. I listened hard, straining to hear for noises to follow. I could hear faint banging to my left so I took off towards it, hoping that I was going the right way.

I could still hear screams and gun shots in the distance, my heart aching. But I had to stay focused. I needed to get to Blair before it was too late.

A crash echoed around the hall and I sprinted towards it. As I got closer, I heard Gid’s voice.

“Oh, Blair. You in here?”

That motherfucking prick. I forced my legs to run faster, hearing Blair’s yells and screams.

The fragments of a busted door scattered the hallway and I threw myself in the doorway.

“Oh, there you are. I didn’t see you around. Sorry to ruin your graduation,” Gid laughed, spotting me.

My blood boiled as I took in the scene in front of me. He had Blair pinned to the desk, his hand on her legs as he tried to pull her underwear off.

Blair’s teary eyes found mine, shock flooding her face as she watched our exchange. “Levi?”

“Let her go, Gid,” I growled, stepping closer towards him. He smirked at me, his hand pushing harder into Blair making her cry out in pain. “I said, let her fucking go.”

Gid sighed, a darkness crossing his face. “Just remember who you are talking to. You might be Lucas’ son, but I’m Harmon’s, so I outrank you, asshole.”

Recognition appeared on Blair’s distraught face, her body struggling under Gid. “Levi, what is he talking about?”

“Oh, honey. He was never your friend. He was stationed here to keep an eye on you. You were just a game to all of us. A long, rewarding game and I’m going to take my prize as soon as Levi fucks off,” Gid said, giving me a frustrated look.

I whipped out my gun, pointing it at him. All I could see was red, but it wasn’t enough. I needed to feel it underneath my fingertips as the life drained out of his disgusting body. “I won’t tell you again. Let her go.”

Gid released Blair, turning to face me with a look of repulsion. “You haven’t been the same since that girl died. Your father is so disappointed in you. You’re a fucking disgrace to the Hunters.”

My thumb cocked the gun, immediately pulling the trigger after. The bullet fired, sending the gun back as I watched Gid fall to the floor with a thud.

“What the fuck is wrong with you?” he screamed. I saw him reach for his own gun while clutching the wound in his thigh, but not this time. He wouldn’t get a chance to hurt anyone else, ever again.

“You killed the love of my life. I hope you burn in hell,” I growled, firing off two more shots into his chest.

I stared at his body as peace filled my soul.

Karma, you asshole.

Blair sobbed, breaking my concentration. I looked at her in a panic.

“Blair, you need to get out of here. Quickly, they are looking for you.”

She looked at me with such pain I had never seen before, her voice shaking as she confirmed the truth. I put my gun down, tucking it away as I stepped towards her.
