“I was meant to befriend you and keep an eye on you until your birthday, but I couldn’t do it, Blair. You mean too much to me. That’s why I sent you those packages. And Quinn… I fucking loved her. She was my everything.”

Blair went into shock, muttering words and begging me to leave. I almost considered it, except the sounds of footsteps heading towards us forced me into action. I cursed, looking at her.

“Blair, you have to run. Quick… Run, Blair for fuck’s sake!”

Finally, sense hit her and she gave me one last look before running out of the room and down the corridor.

I just hoped that if I made it out of this alive, she would forgive me.

When I was confident she was gone, I made my way back out to the grounds, on a mission to find my father. I was going to put a fucking bullet in his head.

"Fuck!" I yelled as I realized most of the Hunters had taken off, leaving a trail of dead bodies in their wake. I started to hyperventilate, unsure what to do.

I needed to get out of here. If the Spades found out about me, I'd end up dead. If the Hunters saw me, I'd probably end up dead too.

Taking one last look at the chaos, I turned, taking off and not looking back until I was back at the motel.

Chapter 10

Inthedaysfollowingthe attack, I stayed hidden. I couldn't face anyone and I certainly wasn't keen on going to HQ.

I did, however, send Benny a few times so he could get updates and keep up appearances. He was hesitant to leave me by myself, but I assured him I was fine.

The truth was I wasn't fine. Friends… teachers… people I'd spent the last two years with, were dead. Every time I tried to sleep, I was haunted by their faces and Quinn's.

I was disgusted with the Hunters, and well and truly done. I would never be a Hunter. And I didn't care if they killed me for it. I'd rather be dead than ever be associated with them again.

The motel door opened, revealing Benny as he walked in. He took a glance at my slumped, drunken frame and sighed.

"Started without me, bro?"

I laughed, pointing at another bottle of vodka. "All yours."

Benny walked over, twisting the top off as he took a sip. "You're right. Hunters are celebrating. They think it's the best thing ever. Harmon is pissed though. They found Gid's body."

"Good," I said, reaching for a smoke. "Fucker deserved it. Hope he rots in hell."

I closed my eyes, ignoring the screams that filled my mind. I deserved to listen to them. Their screams were a reminder that I was a fuck up, on the wrong side. It fuelled me to see my plan through. I still wasn't going to stop until they were wiped out.

My phone dinged, making me open my eyes. I had no idea who could be messaging me. My father was busy, Quinn was dead and well…

Blair: We need to talk. Can you meet?

I sat up straight, re-reading the message several times to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.

"What is it?" asked Benny, looking at me.

"It's Blair," I mumbled, quickly writing back a text agreeing.

As if she even had to question it.

My phone dinged almost immediately with another reply.

Blair: The park? Near Reed's? Say in half hour.

I quickly agreed, standing up. "I'm going to meet Blair."

Benny blinked at me. "Like that? How are you going to drive?"
