"I know. I didn't plan on it," I said, confused.

Xanderson shared a look with his best friends. "We've been talking about it. And if you accept, we'd like to initiate you into the Spades. You've earned it. And we could use all the help we can get to bring down Harmon and Lucas."

A Spade?

I fell silent, my thoughts going wild with the offer. But there was only one answer.

"I'd like that," I said, straightening up to face Xanderson. "Make me a Spade."

Chapter 11

Harmon'sdeathwasthebest thing to happen in weeks. Watching Xanderson put a bullet in his head was the breathing space I didn't know I needed.

We were one step closer to ending the Hunters. The only problem now was the Hunters had a new leader.

My father.

The Spades had collectively agreed that Lucas would waste no time trying to establish his place as leader. He wasn't the type to sit and hide. So, we had to be prepared.

I worked with the Spades to make a plan. We organized teams, attacking strategies and were all placed on standby so we could spring into action at a second's notice.

So when we got the call from Xanderson's team that an attack was going down, we took off. I was determined to do my part and help end the Hunters for good.

"With me, Henderson," Reed commanded, giving me the nod. I followed him, my new leader, as we headed to the south of Ravana Cove. The attack had started here so we expected the worst of the Hunters' force. But when we arrived, there was … nothing.

Damaged shops and cars lined the streets but there was no one around. I could tell straight away something was wrong. This was not the brute force I had expected. This felt almost like a trap.

"This isn't right," I said to Xanderson, looking around with my gun pointed.

"Agreed," he said, talking into a phone.

I lowered my gun, confused. This wasn't the usual attacking style. The asshole was up in something.

My phone dinged in my pocket, so I quickly pulled it out, reading the message.

Benny: Bro I just got word that the Hunters are attacking. They are going for Xanderson's house. You need to get there ASAP!

I stared at the phone, panic ripping through me. I turned to Xanderson, ready to tell him when an almighty explosion sounded, shaking the ground underneath me and everything around us.

"Fuck!" I screamed, hitting the ground.

This was an ambush… a fucking ploy to distract us. It was everything, all in one.

People were screaming everywhere, the sound of guns firing. I tried to find Xanderson but I couldn't see anything through the smoke and debris.

"Fuck it!" I yelled, taking off. I jumped in one of the Spades vehicles, hitting the gas as I headed back towards Xanderson's house.

My mind was focused on the task ahead. I had never felt so determined before in my life. Today was the day the bastard would die. And it would be at my hand.

Familiar cars were at the front of Xanderson's house and I skidded to a stop, jumping out of the car as I drew my gun. I bolted up the steps and through the open door.

My father was in the corridor, looking into a room and laughing. I raised my gun without hesitation, firing at him. The bullet ricocheted next to his head, hitting the wall. Lucas turned to look at me, completely unfazed by the fact he nearly had his head blown off.

"Levi! There you are. We need to talk, son."

He charged at me, too quick for me to fire at him. Our bodies collided, my gun falling from my hand. Instinctively, I threw a punch, clocking him in the jaw.

Lucas' head snapped to the side, his own gun clattering on the floor as he let it go.
