Benny was a fellow Hunter. We were the same age and even played together at Argento High. His father was in Harmon's inner circle so if anyone had more information, it would be him.

I sent him a message, asking as discreetly as possible how things were going with the plan of attack. If I made it sound like I already knew somewhat, I'd get clearer answers.

Shoving my phone back into my pocket, I decided to head home to gather my thoughts before the party. I also needed a plan and ammunition. Taking bullets to a high school party with a bunch of drunk horny teenagers was never a good combination, but I couldn't let my guard down. I couldn't risk the Hunters infiltrating the scene and hurting my peers. They were ruthless, brutal, sadistic fucks and they wouldn't blink twice at hurting children. I'd unfortunately witnessed first hand how fucked up my father was. He had no humanity or soul and no one would stand a chance against him.

But I'd happily give it my best shot.

Chapter 2

I was already getting a headache from the loud shit pouring out of the speakers. I was doing my best to ignore the thudding by drinking beer, the red solo cup crumpling under my hand.

Random girls kept stopping me, asking for a dance but I politely brushed them off. I needed to stay focused. Besides, Quinn had my heart locked up tight. The last thing I wanted was to upset her, even with a friendly dance with one of our peers.

Pushing through some people, I do another scan of the room, my eyes lighting up when I spot Quinn and Blair on the dancefloor. I made my way over, watching as Quinn spotted me first.

"Levi!" she squealed, rushing forward to hug me. I hugged her back, breathing in her scent.

It killed me when I needed to let her go, but we couldn't let Blair or anyone else get suspicious.

"Hey, girls. Good to see you here," I murmured, giving them both a warm smile.

Quinn leaned over to my ear, yelling as she tried to overpower the loudness of the music. She asked about Mallik, giving me a little wink.

I nodded, checking if Blair was coming too. She declined and I watched her vanish outside. I hesitated whether or not to let her go alone, but surely with all these people, she'd be safe.

I led Quinn to Mallik, handing over cash as we grabbed some MJ from him.

"You guys can go into the study over there. There's some peeps in there smoking already."

I indicated my thanks, grabbing Quinn's hand as we slipped into the room. There was smoke everywhere, people spread out as they rolled joints and pulled bongs. Quinn pulled out the contents of the bag, digging out some papers from her back pocket. She rolled the first joint, her slim fingers expertly moving like gentle waves. Holding it out to me, I put it in my mouth, lighting it before offering it back to her.

Quinn grinned, putting it in her mouth as she rolled another. "Thanks, babe."

Fuck, she's so sexy. The way she does anything and everything always made my dick hard.

"Here, you go." She offered me the next joint, giving me a little wink as I put it between my lips.

Usually she has no trouble holding my attention, but I couldn't help the unsettling feeling in my gut that things weren't right. I didn't want to leave Quinn alone, but she was safer in here than anywhere else. A bunch of high, munchie eating stoners were the least of my concerns.

"Babe, I need to go to the bathroom. You all good hanging here?" I asked, giving her a kiss on the cheek. Quinn nodded, giving me a grin as she walked off to chat to some friends in the corner.

I slipped out of the room, heading straight for the back yard. Blair said she was going for a smoke, so I assumed she was out here somewhere.

I checked the bonfire, immediately spotting the Spades Trio. It didn't surprise me they were here, the three of them determined to remind everyone how important they were in this neck of the woods. The rivalry between Woodlands and Argento has a very grey boundary, one that both gangs constantly feel the need to push. Things have been too eerily quiet, so I knew it was only matter of time before Harmon went ahead with the strike. We'd be expected to take it, throw our lives on the line for him. But, it's never been the same. We're just guinea pigs… a shield to protect him.

Nathan spotted me, walking over. "Hey. What's with fucking chicks being difficult?"

"What do you mean?" I asked, dragging my attention away from the Spades.

He rolled his eyes. He was drunk, the smell of alcohol apparent. "Your friend, Blair. She's got a stick up her ass."

Okay, he had my attention now.

"What are you talking about?"

Nathan burped, wiping his mouth. "I tried to talk to her but she just walked off. It's like they don't even want our attention."
