I internally sighed. This fucking idiot insisted on thinking with his dick but he had no game, whatsoever.

"Yeah, I dunno," I muttered. "Girls are weird. Anyway, where did she go?"

He shrugged. "Fucked if I know. Towards the trees."

I glanced over at the woods. It was dark, away from the party. A fucking dangerous place to be when you're a target… especially if you didn't know it.

"Thanks," I replied, heading towards the treeline.

Throwing a quick glance back, I cursed as I realized the Spades were also now missing. I smelled trouble.

I tried to keep my footsteps quiet as I headed into the dark woods. I could faintly hear voices, following them as I avoided sticks as best as possible. Ducking behind a tree, I peered around, catching a glimpse of the Spades. Blair was behind them, on the ground while they had hold of someone. I squinted, trying to make out features as best as possible.

"Just please stop! I beg you. I don't fucking know anything. I was just told… told to take out the girl."

My ears pricked up. I recognized the voice, it was one of Harmon's henchmen. His admission concreted my suspicions. The Hunters were after Blair, and they were going to keep striking until they got her.

I stayed hidden behind the tree, my finger grazing the gun that was tucked in the waistband of my pants. But I wouldn't intervene, not unless I had to. I needed to see what the Spades intentions were with Blair.

The sound of the henchman being ripped apart was like music to my ears. I never cared for him anyway, and if it meant one less threat for Blair, then I was all for it.

I looked around the tree just as Xanderson swung out his knife, slitting his throat. The threat had been eliminated, but for how long?

The sounds of him gurgling on the ground slowly died off. The Spades questioned Blair, confirming what I already knew. She knew nothing, but she was a smart girl. It's only going to be a matter of time before she started connecting the dots.

"I need to go find my friend," Blair mumbled. I needed to get out of here, the last thing I needed was the Spades finding me here watching. I quietly backed out of the woods, using trees and shrubs to cover myself.

I slipped in between party goers as soon as I could, blending in. No one noticed my absence so I pretended I had been at the bonfire the entire time, grabbing someone's solo cup as they stumbled passed. Blair and Cadman walked past, heading for the back door. Her face was scrunched up, so lost in thought that she didn't notice me. When they were finally near the door, I headed back inside, taking the long way through the house so they didn't realize I'd come in from out the back.

Blair's venomous words got louder as I reached the kitchen. Walking inside, I spotted Quinn sitting on the counter, watching an exchange between Blair and Cadman. She threw me a worried glance before looking back at Blair.

Giving everyone a final cold glare, Cadman stalked out of the room, disappearing out the back door.

"What the fuck was that?" I asked, standing next to Quinn.

"Blair?" Quinn asked, giving her friend a look of concern.

Blair hugged her torso, shrugging. "Don't worry about it. He's just being a fucking jerk. I don't know what their problem is."

She doesn't notice her slip up, referring to the Spades as a whole, rather than just the blonde dickhead that was here. Thankfully, Quinn is too high or drunk to notice.

"That's too much excitement for one night," she murmured. "Let's get out of here."

Blair nodded in agreement, looking at me. "Are you coming, Levi?"

I contemplated saying no, so I could go find the body and see what I could do to stop news getting back to Harmon. But, I assumed the Spades probably have it under control. Besides, I'd feel a lot better if I could keep an eye on the girls and make sure they got home safe.

"Yeah. Come on, I'll give you guys a lift home." I grabbed my keys from my back pocket. I hadn't drunk or smoked enough to be affected, but I couldn't say the same for them.

Quinn hopped down off the counter, her legs swaying slightly. "Cool. We'll drop Blair off first so we can make sure she stays out of trouble."

I wished I could agree with Quinn, but honestly, Blair was in trouble whether she found it herself or not. The question was, would she be able to swim when the trouble pulled her into the darkness?

Quinn and I watched as Blair stumbled through her front door into the dark house, waving at us before she disappeared from sight behind the door.

"What the fuck was that?" Quinn asked, breathy before I could even kick the car into drive.

"What was what?" I asked, playing dumb. I didn't want to assume or say anything that could make Quinn form ideas in her mind. The less she knew, the better. I didn't want her getting caught up in this drama. My mind already started considering pulling her away from Blair, distracting her to keep her safe. But Quinn was too loyal, she'd never be that girl that left behind friends for a guy.
