Benny: Hey bro. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. H has me working on things. The plan isn't going well and everyone is freaking out. Yeah, will meet you at our spot. I'm free at 2.

I sent him a quick reply back, letting him know that the time worked for me. I was going to get to the bottom of this. I just had to deal with my father first.

"Levi!" Lucas said, putting his arms out. "You're here."

I stood at the door, hesitating as my father waited for a hug.

Lucas Henderson doesn't do fucking hugs. He doesn't even do fucking humanity. This was a trick, a ploy. And one that I would always fail.

If I refused him, he'd get mad. If I went along with it, I'd pay. But, as usual I had no damn choice.

Sighing, I stepped in, giving him a quick hug. His hand gave me a light pat on my back, before moving to grasp my shoulder. I felt his nails and fingertips dig in, holding me as he pulled his fist back, punching me in the gut.

"Good to see you, son," he smirked, watching as I doubled over coughing.

"Always a pleasure," I replied through clenched teeth.

Lucas stepped back, sitting down in his chair. We were in the Hunters HQ, in his little office. It was as dark as his soul, everything black. I truly believed it was to hide the stains of his hobbies.

"I take it you've heard about last night?" he asked, reaching for his flask he kept in his desk drawer.

I nodded, sitting down across from him. No point in lying. Even if I didn't know their plans, people knew I was at the party. The Hunters knew everything and had eyes everywhere.

"Cottee is dead," Lucas said simply, taking a drink. There's no remorse or anguish in his voice. The death of one of his henchmen meant nothing to him. But what could I expect? I'm his son and I mean nothing, so people below me… they don't even exist in this world other than to serve him and Harmon.

"And he was there to take out Blair Fortin," I replied as a matter of fact.

Lucas strummed his fingers on the desk. "Of course. But it seems once again, our efforts have been unsuccessful. Why do you think that is?"

His eyes were dancing in excitement. He knew the answer, just like he knew that I did too.

"The Spades."

"Exactly. You need to step up, get them out of the way."

I scoffed uncontrollably. "And how do I do that? It's suicide."

Lucas stood, walking around the desk slowly as he came to stand behind me. His hand rested on my shoulder, squeezing painfully.

"Your job is to ask how high when I tell you to jump. Even if that's from a building. So, jump Levi. Or else I'll take you out with her."

Trucks and cars blared their horns as they passed over me. I was under the bridge by the creek, my little spot where the only risk of being caught was by homeless people and wild animals.

"Bro, you're early," Benny grinned as he walked over to me. He slapped my hand, giving me a quick hug.

"My previous appointment finished early," I offered.

He nodded, reaching into his back pocket to pull out a cigarette. He held one out to me which I took with a quick thanks.

"So, what's new?" Benny asked, lighting his smoke.

I took the lighter from him, inhaling as I lit the end of mine. "This mission is getting rough."

"Tell me about it. Poor Cots didn't stand a fucking chance. So glad I'm not in the front line for jobs like that."

Benny pushed his scruffy brown hair out of his face, his dark beady eyes tired.

I gave him a tight sympathetic smile. "What is it that Harmon has you working on?"
