“Luna’s my little sister and I have every right to question your intentions toward her, Demon,” he said. “I asked you to watch her, not fuck her.” Demon closed his eyes, breathing heavily, he tried to get his temper under control. The last time that he had a run-in with one of his brothers at the club, it was over a woman that they were both interested in. Demon ended up losing his friend and that was the dumbest thing he’d ever done. He vowed never to fight with one of the guys in his club over a woman ever again. Even though this situation was different, it was still so similar, and he refused to fight with Joel over the fact that he had fallen for his friend’s sister.

“You’re right, you do have every right to check up on your sister, but it won’t change the fact that I’ve fallen for her. Right now, I’m worried that she’s going to bolt because of our little display here tonight, and I can’t have that happen. I’m going to go back to check on her and we can have a private discussion later about how I feel about your sister. First, I need to tell her how I feel and try to work this all out with Luna.”

Demon walked back to the ladies’ room, looking for Luna. She had run off so fast, he was sure that admitting to her brother that not only had they slept together, but that he had feelings for Luna, was the wrong thing to just blurt out, but he couldn’t help himself. He hated that Joel thought that he’d take advantage of his little sister, even if that’s what it felt like at first. God, he had so much guilt over making Luna his, but he came to terms with his feelings quickly because he wanted her—he really was falling for her.

Demon knocked on the bathroom door and when no one answered, he pushed his way in, peeking in to make sure that no one was in there. “Luna,” he called, “you in here?” he asked.

“This is Dallas,” Savage and Bowie’s wife called from one of the bathroom stalls. “Luna was in here but left a few minutes ago.”

“Sorry to bother you,” he said, “thanks.” He pulled the door shut and turned to find Joel standing right behind him.

“Jesus, man,” Demon shouted, “don’t sneak up on me like that.”

“You find her?” Joel asked.

“No,” Demon breathed. “Dallas said that she was in here a few minutes ago, but she left. Where the hell did she go?” Demon asked. Panic knotted up in his stomach and all he could think about was all of the awful things that might have happened to her.

“She wouldn’t just leave, would she?” Demon asked. Honestly, he already knew the answer to his question. It’s what she did—Luna ran when she got upset or angry, and right now, she was probably both.

“You’re asking me that after she ditched you the first day you two met?” Joel asked. “My sister runs when she’s pissed or hurt. This is on you, man,” he said. Demon really wanted to punch the guy in the face, but that wouldn’t end well for either of them and it wouldn’t get him Luna back.

“You were the one who accused me of taking advantage of her. Maybe hearing me say that I have feelings for her upset her, but I’m not sure why it would. I mean, shouldn’t she be happy about me saying that?” Demon asked. He ran through the entire conversation and groaned. “Unless she doesn’t feel the same way about me.”

“I’m sure that’s not it,” Joel assured.

“You can’t be sure of that. I thought that she was starting to feel the same way about me, but what if she’s just been using me?” Demon barked out his laugh and Joel looked at him as if he had lost his mind. “I mean, that’s ironic, right?” he asked. “Here, you thought that I was using your sister and it turns out that she was using me instead. That’s pretty damn funny man,” he growled.

“Listen, how about we find Luna and you two can figure this all out together? I’m sorry that I butted my nose into your business, Demon. If you have feelings for my sister, I won’t stand in your way with her, but it has to be what she wants too.”

“Got it,” Demon agreed. Joel was right. They needed to find Luna first and then, the two of them could figure out the rest of this mess.

“You go tell Savage that Luna’s missing,” Demon ordered, “hopefully, we can get a few of the guys out looking for her. I’m going to check the parking lot. Call if you hear from her and I’ll do the same.”

“Will do,” Joel promised. Demon didn’t stand around waiting for Joel to go find Savage. He headed out the side door and out into the cold night air. He usually loved this time of year and being with Luna for Halloween helped turn the holiday into a whole lot more fun than he remembered it being. If she had run on him again, he was going to be pissed. She promised that she wouldn’t just take off on him anymore.

Demon looked around the parking lot and didn’t spot her. He worried that the Ghosts had caught up with her and when he found his pick-up truck empty, he was sure that something was up. She couldn’t walk back to his place from the bar, it was too far of a trek, but she could make it back to her apartment.

“You find her?” Joel asked.

“Jesus, I told you to stop sneaking up on me,” he shouted. “I think that she took off for her place. My truck is still here and it’s the only place that she’d be able to walk to. I’m going to drive over and check it out, but something isn’t right.”

“I agree,” Joel said, “I’ll head down to the station and see if I can work any leads. We’ll find her, man,” he said, clapping Demon on the back.

“Keep in touch,” Demon said. He ran over to his truck and jumped in. He kicked up gravel on his way out of the parking lot. He just hoped like hell that Joel was right, and they’d be able to find her.

Demon pulled into the parking lot of her apartment. He found her unit and ran up to the second floor, hoping like hell that he’d find her there. He was about to knock on her front door when he heard Luna’s scream pierce through the darkness. She was inside her apartment, and if his hunch was right, she wasn’t alone. Demon pulled his cell phone from his pocket and shot off a quick text to Joel to get his ass over to Luna’s place before he headed in.

He pulled his gun from his shoulder holster and tried the doorknob. Whoever had her in her place didn’t lock the door after themselves. Demon quietly turned the doorknob and let himself into Luna’s apartment. Her stuff had been tossed all over the place and he could guess that she had walked in on someone being in her apartment who wasn’t supposed to be there.

“I told you; I don’t know anything about that,” she shouted. They had her in the back of her apartment—probably her bedroom or something. He quietly made his way back to where she was being held and peeked into the room. There were two men, one on either side of her, holding her down to her bed. He pushed the door open, revealing himself to the two guys holding Luna and her sob filled the room, nearly breaking him. Demon wanted to take the two guys out right there; he had the opportunity and skill not to miss, but he also knew that would land him in a bunch of hot water with Uncle Sam. His job as the club’s enforcer was his part-time gig, and he needed to keep a level head if he was going to get everyone out of Luna’s apartment alive—including the two assholes who were holding her down on her mattress.

“You okay, honey?” he asked.

“No,” she sobbed, “I’m not okay. These two assholes were waiting for me when I got back here. They trashed my place and they’re still trying to find Joel.”

“Shut the fuck up, bitch,” one of the guys spat.
