Heads bobbed and “yeses” were muttered.

“Good. I also have observed a lot of discussions about my private life. I don’t appreciate it. Control yourselves and your junior staff. My floor is not to be used for gossip.” His jaw ticked as he leveled his gaze on each person… excluding me. I almost wished he would look at me. It would make his avoidance less obvious. “Any other questions?”

Stupid Becky coyly lifted her hand. If she pressed Eli, he’d let her have it. “Yes, sir. Since you’re being forthcoming, there’s been talk about you and Ms. Lucas. I mean, many of us observed you two together at the banquet. You also left together.”

Oh shit. Here it comes.

“Is there a question mixed in with your gibberish, Miss Tate? Why dance around it? Just come out and ask what you want to know. Because I will tell you this, it’s really none of your business, is it?”

She shook her head. “No, sir.”

“No, it isn’t. But to show you all I’m not the asshole I’ve heard some call me in the week I’ve been here, I’ll set the record straight. And be sure you tell your staff to not talk about my ex-wife and me.”

Oh damn.

Heads turned my way.

“Yes, Ms. Lucas is my ex-wife. She’s also the love of my life. Not that it’s any of your business. Be sure word gets around I’m not available. I don’t appreciate being flirted with or talked about. I’m here to do a job and to win my wife back. Meeting adjourned.”

I dropped my chin to my chest. Damn him. Did he honestly feel the need to be so blunt about his intentions to the managers?

And at my expense. Or as another way to get through to me. To prove his love. Shit. I wasn’t sure what to think or how to feel.

I stood and collected my phone and notepad as the room cleared out. Eli stayed in his spot like he was waiting for me to leave before him. Again, staying out of my way, I assumed.

But the way my heart fluttered and butterflies danced in my stomach, I questioned why I was staying away from him. This was the maddening part about Eli Morgan. He melted me with his charm and charisma. Lit me on fire with his arrogance and controlling personality.

I stopped at the door before crossing the threshold. I debated my feelings as his eyes burned into the back of my head.

The magnetic pull to him was unstoppable. As much as I didn’t want to get caught up in Eli again, the truth was, I never got uncaught up in him.

I shut the door and turned around to face him. We stared at each other for a long minute. My body buzzed with need, lips begging for his.

I knew Eli wouldn’t make a move. He’d keep his promise. It made me want him even more. I found myself turning the lock on the doorknob behind me and moving toward him. His electric blue eyes caressed every visible inch of my skin the closer I got.

“Boo, you look lovely today.” His tongue darted out as he licked his lips, appraising me like a starved man. I supposed he was, since it’d been four days since his last release.

“You confuse me. My mind is all muddled.”

“I’m sorry, baby. Let me clear it all up for you.”

“You make me ache, Eli. Everywhere.”

“I can fix all that too.” He took a step. I moved back into the table. His hand glided down my hip and he lifted my leg, aiding me in sitting on the table.

It was no use fighting him at this moment. I was possessed by him as always.

“Do you want me, Boo? I’ll give you whatever you want.” His large hand curled under my thigh and spread my legs open.

My breathing hitched. “Eli, we can’t.”

The corner of his lip curled. “The fuck we can’t.” His lips were on the curve of my neck, licking and sucking. The throbbing in my panties increased. God, it was painful too.

As if hearing my duress, he slipped his fingers into my panties and they went to work, flicking my clit and dipping between my folds. He stroked me slowly, revving me up for more.

“Damn you…” I said with a sigh.

“If I get you off now, and I most definitely will, I want you to meet me in the supply closet after.”
