“William’s stable. It’ll be a couple more hours before he’s out of surgery. We just wanted to give you an update. There are several bullet wounds the surgeon is repairing. William also went into cardiac arrest twice.”
“Oh my God,” Claire gasped, covering her mouth.
“But they’ve stabilized him,” the nurse said quickly. “Dr. Boyd said he seemed very distressed. They couldn’t get his blood pressure down. Do you know what might be upsetting him, aside from the obvious, being shot?”
Shit, I knewwhowas causing him stress. Miranda.
“No, I’m sorry,” Claire said.
“Hmm… They will put him in a medically induced coma to keep him calm. It’s only temporary. He needs rest. His injuries aren’t life-threatening, but they do weaken him, and we can’t have his blood pressure spiking.”
I’d heard enough. What I needed to do was find Miranda. There was one person who might know where Jason took her.
While in my truck, York texted to meet him at the jet in an hour. That was just enough time to deal with Cori, the little bitch who fucked with Will.
She was in custody, along with Abe. They hadn’t gotten away as Jason had during the shoot-out. If I ever got my hands around his throat, I’d squeeze the life out of him.
I called in a favor to get ten minutes alone with Cori. When she entered the room with her hands cuffed, she frowned.
“Who are you?”
“Doesn’t matter. I have one question for you. Where did Jason take Miranda?”
Cori laughed. “He actually got her? Sick fuck.” She shook her head. “I guess Tabitha actually paid attention when Jason thought she was just a stupid blonde.”
“Where did he take her?” I didn’t care to hear any of Cori’s thoughts.
“Why should I tell you?”
“Because you want to see tomorrow, right? And you care about Will.”
“Exactly, why would I want him to be withherwhen I want him for myself?”
My jaw ticked. I hated this little bitch. “You’ll never have him. Even if Miranda dies. Now tell me what you know. Miranda is innocent, taken against her will. Who knows what the fuck Jason will do to her. Are you okay with that? Because I’m not.” I leaned forward in my chair and sneered. “I will happily end your life if something happens to her.”
Cori worried her lower lip, hands trembling. “Can you get me a deal if I talk?”
“No dice. The only deal you’re getting is hell inside a cell or six feet under. Do the right thing after all the pain and misery you’ve caused Will, all for your own greedy desires.” Shit, I hoped she believed my bullshit because I didn’t think this bitch would see much jail time. Cori and Abe never got their hands on the money. They caused a lot of problems for Will, but it was Jason who had stolen the money.
“I honestly didn’t plan to fall for him. Abe and I were only after the money his friend stole. We’d been watching Jason for a while. We knew about the money he owed Mario Valdez. That much was true. I don’t know exactly where he took her.”
“Tell me what you do know.”
“Fine. There’s a shack Jason had inquired about last week. I’d been able to wire his favorite pair of shoes while in Vegas. Tabitha is so gullible. She let me into their suite when the guys were at the blackjack table.”
“Yeah, yeah, get on with it. I don’t care how you found out. Where is it?”
“It’s by a lake. He’d told the realtor it was perfect for a queen and not far from her house. You got to know Jason would stop at nothing to get his way with her. He even has the date rape drug.”

“And does Jason use?” If he did, he might not be in his right mind after we took back the money and his plan fell apart just hours ago.
Cori blinked in surprise. “Yeah, sometimes. Cocaine mostly, a little LSD from time to time, from what Tabitha told me.”
I was on my feet. “Anything else that might help me find Miranda?”
“No. And hey, I was only after the money. Falling for Will wasn’t expected, and I don’t think Miranda was part of Jason’s plan either. The guy is ruthless. He won’t bargain. From what I’ve learned about him, he doesn’t care about human life, just himself. So don’t think you can appeal to his good side because he doesn’t have one.”
