He shrugged. “We have more pressing matters to deal with, so the morning it is.”

“Axel?” Will’s voice pulled me back to the call.

“Yeah?”

“We’re pulling into the hospital. Miranda is in labor. I’ll keep you updated on Simone.”

Jesus, Miranda was having the baby too? This was all too much for me.

“Is your mom there?”

“She will be.”

“I don’t want Simone alone. Somebody better stay with her twenty-four seven. Understand?”

“Yes. Darwin will be on duty. Lily and Tessa will be at the hospital too. I’m sure one of them will sit with her. She’ll be fine.”

“She better be fine, or I’m coming after you. I told you the high shine on your stairs was dangerous, but you didn’t listen to me.”

“I knew you’d bring that up,” Will mumbled. “I gotta go now. Later.” The call ended.

I lifted my gaze to Mr. St. James. “What?”

He smirked. “I can see how much you care for my daughter.”

I grunted, handing his phone back to him.

“And protective.”

I grunted again.

“You might get my approval after all.”

“I don’t need it, but it’s important to Simone. So it’s important to me.”

“We’ll be landing in a couple of hours. Get some sleep. You’ll need to be well rested for Simone.”

Somehow without saying it directly, I believed I’d just gotten William St. James II’s blessing to be with his daughter.

Fuck yeah.

I prayed we all made it out of the meeting with the Russians. Now I had something to live for… someone to live for.

We arrived at Morosov’s casino. I shouldn’t have been surprised we were greeted by several big-ass Russian thugs before we ever stepped foot inside. During my time as a Ranger, I’d stared danger in the face, never once batting an eye. I never feared death. But right at this moment, I was terrified. It had everything to do with my brother’s safety and desperately wanting to see the woman of my dreams again.

“IDs,” one said.

I followed Mr. St. James’s lead, taking out my driver’s license. When they got to my brother, the guard flicked his gaze to another man. He grabbed Conrad by the back of his neck and checked his head.

“What the fuck?” I stepped forward. “Let him go.”

“Axel, stand down,” York said through a clenched jaw.

I exhaled a labored breath, feeling my throat constrict. Now the assholes knew which one of us was Conrad, and he was scared shitless. His eyes were bugged out, hands trembling. I hated seeing my brother this way.

“He’s a little man, isn’t he?” One of the Russians laughed at Conrad. The fuckers were trying to get a rise out of us. It wouldn’t work for me. I had someone to get home to.

“Probably with a tiny dick,” another one said.
