Tara wanted Hero as much as he wanted her. She was just playing hard to get, and taking her sweet time holding a grudge against the boys.

“Oh! The club’s having a party Friday night.” I squeezed Storm’s hand and he issued me a nod of approval. “Come to it. See how the other side lives.”

“Not me,” Kim replied quickly. “I mean, I’m sure you’re all swell, but I’ll be with my boys.” Last week at breakfast Kim had mentioned spending the weekend with her boys before they returned to college.

“I’m down for a party.” Steph popped her shoulders, always eager to try something new.

“Well, Tara? How about it?” I watched her eyes flit toward Hero. He’d returned to his and Track’s booth.

“I’ll consider it.”

Stubborn redhead.

I hated needles. The buzz of the tattoo gun reminded me of the one place I despised most and avoided at all cost, beyond my annual visit—the dentist. Yes, I only went once a year.

Storm and I entered Human Canvas, a KLMC owned tattoo parlor in Bastion. This was my first time here. The whining of the guns made the hairs on my arms flare.

“Hey Storm!” A woman at the counter smiled too wide for my liking. Her arms and neck were covered in an array of colored ink. She had a small heart-shaped teardrop below the corner of her eye. Her hair was chin-length on one side, shaved on the other, and was the color of blue raspberry Laffy Taffy. “Saw your name in the books. What’re you getting inked?”

Was I invisible? The woman made no attempt to acknowledge me.Rude.

“My woman,” Storm replied through gritted teeth.

Every time a woman’s face lit up like a freaking floodlight, I couldn’t help but wonder if he’d screwed her.

“Oh…” Yup, she seemed disappointed by his reply.Great. “Well, Art will be with you shortly.”

Storm grunted, pressing his hand to my lower back to guide me to a sofa along the wall. He sat and pulled me onto his lap.

“Breathe, Angel. It’ll all be all right.” He knew my fears and promised to hold my hand. But I was sure I’d need more than his hand to get me through this.

“I doubt it. At least at the dentist, I get Novocaine.”

“Here, you can have tequila or whiskey.” He winked, gripping the back of my neck and kneading it.

I exhaled a sigh in response to his soothing ministrations. “If I was pregnant, I couldn’t have either.”

His eyes cut to mine. “You trying to tell me something, Angel?”

Dammit. I should’ve known better than to mention the P-word and especially not the B-word.Pregnantandbabywere off-limits.

Storm was wound tighter than a drum with getting the Hunters out of his territory. He wanted the area safe for me, his MC family, and the locals. My poor man carried an unbelievably heavy weight on his shoulders.

But knowing I wouldn’t consider having a baby until it was safe took his stress to a whole new level. And I’d just given him false hope.Crap.

I cradled his face in my hands and pecked his warm lips. “No, I wasn’t trying to tell you anything. I’m sorry. That was insensitive of me.” I kissed his lips lightly.

The disappointment in his stormy eyes crushed me.

“It’s all good, Angel. The area isn’t safe yet.” He wrapped me in his hulking arms, swallowing me up, and gave me a real kiss. The kind that made me wet and gasping for air.

The area isn’t safe yetrepeated in my head. My heart hurt. He was doing everything imaginable to rid Bastion and Winters of the dirty maggots. I wanted him to succeed so we could move forward in our relationship.

He pulled away, ending his delicious kiss. “When we’re done here, we’ll go home and practice our baby-making skills.”

“Yay, something to look forward to.” I clapped, wiggling my ass on him to lighten the mood.

He chuckled and squeezed me.
