Jaynee

I paced the floor as Sadie and Nova watched a movie. The girls were so happy to see each other. They were a welcomed distraction while I worried about Zander.

Karma sat on the sofa, looking stressed to the max. On the plane ride, she’d told me Cobra was the biker who’d broken her heart and made me promise not to mention Nova. Even though it was wrong to keep the truth from him, I had agreed to stay silent.

After we arrived at the compound, Cobra had asked Karma to talk to him. I wasn’t sure what to make of him. He couldn’t seem to take his eyes off her. Twenty minutes later, she returned in a foul mood. I hadn’t asked her what had happened. Karma was the kind of person you didn’t question. When she was ready to talk, she would.

My thoughts were consumed by Zander. He was supposed to be only a couple of hours behind us. I expected him anytime. Sadie would be asking for him once the movie was over. He’d promised to be home for supper.

My stomach was in knots. Should I tell him about the baby tonight? Or wait until my first doctor’s appointment? Or wait until he got the results from his testing?

“Stop pacing, Jay.”

I turned toward Karma. “I can’t help it. How are you doing?”

“Truthfully, I don’t know.”

I sat next to her. “What do you mean, you don’t know?”

“He wanted to talk about what happened, but I wouldn’t listen.”

“You know, time often heals heartache.”

She stared at Nova. “Not when you have a daily reminder. He betrayed me. I can’t forgive that.”

“But what about letting him be a father to his daughter? I might not have been around very long, but Storm is great with his daughter. Cobra’s his cousin. Maybe he’d be a good dad.”

“I don’t want to talk about this.”

“Hasn’t she asked about her dad before?”

“Yes, but I shut it down.”

I held my tongue. Richard didn’t want Sadie to know he was her father. It was his decision. Cobra might feel differently.

“Where are my girls?”

“Daddy!” Sadie ran to Zander. “I knew you’d come back.”

I stood but hung back to let them have their moment. They were absolutely precious together.

“Come here, Mommy.” Zander waved me over. “I need both my girls in my arms.”

I smiled and joined their embrace. “I can finally breathe again.”

His lips lowered to mine. “Me too.”

Sadie hooked her arm around our necks as we kissed. These two were my whole world.

His hand cupped my ass. “Mmm, I missed this.” He gave it a squeeze.

“Me too.”

“Tonight, you can show me how much you missed me.” He waggled his brows.

“You bet I will. Now, who’s hungry?” I needed to steer this conversation in a different direction before we heated up. Who was I kidding? The lust in his eyes probably matched mine.
