Jaynee

Holy hell, Zander was ridiculously hot. Too bad after today, I’d never see him again.

Wait. What are you saying, girlfriend? A man’s the last thing you need.

True.

Besides, a guy like him would never be interested in a full-figured woman like me. Not to mention my kid. The two women with him were gorgeous and thin. I couldn’t tell if the blonde, Eve, was with him or not. They didn’t act like a couple, but then, neither had Richard and I when we were in public.

If only Zander would stop watching me. He’d have to be a pretty ballsy guy to act that way in front of his partner, wife, girlfriend… whatever Eve was to him. Yeah, the more I thought about it, the more I doubted they were together.

“I’m not fucking around, Jaynee! Bring my daughter back to Vegas!” Richard’s voice rose about ten octaves.

Zander’s brow furrowed. Could he hear Richard yelling at me? How embarrassing.

“Will you calm down,” I whispered, trying to appear like everything was fine.

“Calm? You want me to calm down? Come back to Vegas tonight. Running to Minneapolis was a stupid thing to do, Jaynee.”

“How do you know where I am?” I scanned the inside of the joint. Did he have me followed?

He laughed. “I told you last night. I know everything.”

“How?” I flicked my eyes at Zander. His were more intense than a few seconds ago. He must be able to hear Richard.

“Louise told me you were moving. I didn’t think she meant you’d be on a plane first thing in the morning.”

“Louise told you?” That crabby snot.

“Yeah, baby, she did. She was my eyes and ears at your apartment complex.”

“You son of a bitch!” Several people gasped, and I covered my mouth.

Zander was on his feet, stalking toward me.

Crap, crap, crap!

“It didn’t take but a few hundred dollars a month to get Louise to tell me everything.”

I was appalled he would go to that degree to keep tabs on me.

Zander touched my elbow. “Everything okay?”

“Who’s that?” Richard asked.

I nodded to Zander, turning my back to him. “I need to go,” I told Richard.

“Jaynee, if you and Sadie don’t return to Vegas tonight, I’ll hunt you down. You don’t want to mess with me. I’ll take you to court. Get full custody of Sadie, then you’ll never see her again.”

My heart stuttered. “Don’t threaten me.”

“It’s not a threat,Dolly. It’s a promise. If you don’t return tonight, I will find you by lunch tomorrow.” My heart jumped into my throat. I felt like a deer in headlights.

My phone was yanked out of my hand. I whirled around and stared in shock at… my hero?

“Who the fuck is this?” Zander growled with a menacing expression. I think I liked his cocky smirk better.
