Zander: Where you moving to?

Jaynee: Where the wind takes us. Have a good day.

Zander: I’m here if you need anything.

Jaynee: Thanks

Push him away, Jaynee. You’ll get attached, then what?

“Who was that?” a small, groggy voice asked.

I peered at Sadie, yawning like a lion cub. She was the reason why I needed to cut communication with Zander. Her tender heart would only get broken.

“Morning, baby.” I kissed her head and cuddled her close. “I’m glad you’re awake. We need to get ready and go downstairs for breakfast. Are you hungry?”

She scowled, displeased with me ignoring her question. I didn’t mind if she was angry. It was better than her crying for her a man who wasn’t her daddy.

“I miss Zander. Call him.”

Here we go… “Sadie, we aren’t doing this. Mommy needs to find a job so we can move to…” I twisted my lips. Where would she love to live? The beach! “Florida! We’ll move to the beach, baby girl.”

Her eyes brightened as she popped up onto her knees. “The beach?” She squealed and clapped.

“Yes, the beach.”

“Oh goodie, then I can be a mermaid!” She bounced with a sweet grin on her face. “Better text Zander so he’ll know where to find us.”

Oh, my heart.

“Never mind.” She crawled off the bed and ran toward the bathroom. “He’ll know how to find us because he’s an undercover agent!” The door slammed shut.

She left me speechless and tearing up.

We needed to get out of Minnesota as soon as possible. With the room paid through Friday, I needed to make some quick cash to buy us bus tickets. It was cheaper than flying.

The only thing I could do was what I knew best: dancing. I didn’t want to fall back on the job I’d grown to hate, but I didn’t have a choice. A couple of shows should get me enough in tips alone for the tickets.

A tear rolled down my cheek as I opened Google on my phone to searchtopless barsin the Twin Cities.
