The side window went down, and a hand appeared with a gun.Pop-pop-pop!

Storm and I ducked and weaved. Prez would give me hell later. I’d acted impulsively as I did when rage overpowered my sense of right and wrong. I didn’t give two fucks. Jaynee and Sadie needed me.

Copper veered in front of us again. Bullets pinged my truck, making me insane. Those sons of bitches would pay for damaging my baby. Copper proceeded to ride their asses, hitting the bumper. I couldn’t believe it. What in the fuck was he doing? Trying to give me a heart attack?

The driver slammed on the breaks. Copper hit the back end. The sounds of metal hitting metal unhinged me. I might love my Harley more than breathing, but my Chevy? She was on a different level. She protected me during the winter months. She made towing my toys a piece of cake. She even had a bed when I wanted to fool around with a woman during the summer months. My Chevy was multi-fucking-functional.

How could Copper treat her like she was in the destruction derby?

Both cages stopped hard on the shoulder of the road. Grizzly jumped out of the cab, gun drawn. Maddox did the same thing as Storm, Track, and I stopped.

I shot the driver in the head the second the door opened. He never made it out of the cage.

“Will you fucking calm down!” Storm yelled.

“Not time for pleasantries, Prez.”

Grizzly and Maddox chased after another guy as he ran into the open field. He didn’t make it. Maddox tackled him to the ground.

I ran to the back of the van. “On the count of three, we open the doors.”

“I’m in charge, dipshit,” Storm hissed. “On three. One, two, three!”

We pulled the doors open.

My heart jumped into my throat.

“Stand back, or I’ll shoot her!” a masked man hollered, holding a gun to Sadie’s head. She and Jaynee were out cold.

I aimed my semi-automatic at his head. “If you want to live, you’ll give me your gun.”

“Bullshit! You’ll kill me.”

“You’re right, motherfucker. Either way, you’re dead,” Storm growled.

I caught a glimpse of Track in the front of the van. He raised his hand. The reflection of his knife glinted as he put it to the guy’s throat. “Drop your gun, or I’ll slice you wide open.”

The idiot fired at Storm and me. We ducked behind the doors for cover.

“Jesus Christ!” Track shouted. “I hate slicing open pricks.”

I came around the door in time to see the dude fall to the side with blood draining out of him.

“Let’s hurry it up before the cops come,” Storm said. “Copper!”

I crawled into the back. “Jay, wake up.” I felt for a pulse. It was there. That was all I needed to know.

“Yeah, boss?” Copper asked.

“Get the little girl. I’ll help Lynx get the woman,” Storm told him.

“I’ve got Jaynee.” I dragged her limp body into my arms, holding her tightly, and scooted out the back.

“You sure?”

I glared at Storm. “Said I got her.”

“All right.” He stepped back.
