I got her situated in the back seat and climbed in with her.
“Where do you want the little girl?” Copper asked.
“Give her to me. I’ll hold her.”
“O-kay.” Copper handed me Sadie, a shocked expression on his face.
I cuddled her close, kissing her head. “I’ve got you, peanut. You’re safe.” With my free hand, I ran my fingers through Jaynee’s hair. “You’re both safe.”
Strangely, it was like I could breathe again now that they were with me.
