He grabbed my elbow. “Jay, what happened?”

“Oh please, don’t act like you care, Zander.” I swayed a bit. Where were these words coming from? That last shot might have been one too many.

He took my hand. “Let’s go.”

I whipped it out of his. “I’m leaving with Karma.”

He got in my face. “What the fuck’s going on, Jay? Did I do something wrong?”

I patted his cheek with my free hand. “No, you did absolutely nothing.” Not talk to me, not hang with me, not kiss me. He’d donenothing.

Tara wedged herself between us. “Please don’t go yet. We haven’t done our group song. It’s the one thing I really wanted to do tonight. Please?” The redhead bounced on her toes, hands steepled. “Just one song.”

Zander stared at me with a tight jaw. I wasn’t sure what he was so angry about or why I was in a bitchy mood.

“Sure, Tara, I’ll stay for one song. Just for you.” I glowered at Zander.

“Thank you!” Tara dashed off.

Zander closed the gap between us. “If you’re leaving after the song, I’m driving you home.”

I peered at the bar, finding Amber with her arms crossed over her chest, watching us.

Just to see what Zander would do, I leaned into him and pecked his lips. “You’re off the hook. You don’t have to take care of me or sacrifice your needs.” I pointed at Amber. “Your kitten is waiting for you.”

Panic flashed in his eyes. “Fucking hell, Jay. Are you drunk?”

I laughed. “Even if I am, I see clearly.”

“What in the hell does that mean?”

“I have too high of expectations for a player like you. It’s fine. Friends, right? That’s what we agreed to in the beginning.” I sounded pathetic. Like an emotional teenage girl who wanted the guy she liked to label their relationship. I wanted everyone to know we were a couple and to change my Facebook status to:In a relationship with Zander Quinn.

“Bullshit.” He grabbed the back of my neck and crushed his lips to mine. He kissed me hard. Angrily. I was instantly wet. “I’m taking you home after the song,” he hissed with my bottom lip caught between his teeth.

From behind him, I saw Amber throw up her hands and stomp out of the bar. If I wasn’t so entranced by Zander’s alpha-hotness, I might have bid her farewell.

“Let’s go, Jaynee. We’re ready.” Maddy took my hand, pulling me away from Zander. “Sorry, Lynx, but we need her.”

“I need her,” Zander shot back, stunning the hell out of me. “You’re mine, Jay, after the fucking song.”

My feet stopped moving. The air vanished from my lungs. Everyone turned their gaze to Zander.

“What are you all staring at?” He looked around, then pinned me with his intense, lust-filled eyes. “Get on with the song, ladies, so I can take my girl home.”

I gaped and shook my head. My girl? Were my ears playing tricks on me? Had he just claimed me in front of his club?

It didn’t really matter because Maddy tugged me to the stage, shouting over her shoulder, “We’ll hurry, Lynx!”

“Does everyone know ‘Edge of Seventeen’ by Stevie Nicks?” Tara asked from behind me.

I nodded, unable to take my eyes off Zander. He stood where I left him, hands on his hips, and a penetrating smolder.

The music started and someone pushed me in my place. Tara took the lead while the rest of us sang backup. Lights flashed. Catcalls were shouted. Every pair of eyes were on us.

Storm and several other guys surrounded Zander. Hero had his phone out, probably recording our performance.

It must’ve been the alcohol, because the further into the song, the more my body moved. When Maddy copied my moves, I embraced my position as the dance teacher.
