So much for showing a vulnerable side.

Storm took out a wad of cash. “I’d apologize for locking you up, but after the way you treated my boy here, you don’t deserve it.”

Irisah snatched the money. “I knew you guys were just as dickish as my dad.” She darted her emerald-green eyes at me. “Let’s go.”

I let her pass and looked back at Prez.

“See if you can get her to talk about Jordy,” he told me.

“Sure, boss.”

We’d been in one of the club’s trucks for ten minutes, neither one of us saying a word. After holding her captive, I was sure she didn’t want anything to do with the Knights.

I stopped at the intersection. If I continued east, we’d be in the Twin Cities in a couple of hours. “I assume you want to return home.”

She stared out the passenger’s window. “You assume incorrectly.”

“Then where do you want me to take you?”

“Is Mexico too far?”

“Yeah, it is.”

She counted the money in her hand. “He didn’t give me enough for a plane ticket.”

“I have three fifty in my wallet.”

She turned toward me. “You’d give me your money?”

“Sure. It’s just money.”

She studied my face. “That scratch below your eye will probably leave a scar.”

I turned right and touched the cut she gave me. “Probably. Battle wounds come with the territory.” I dug out my wallet and removed the cash. “I’ll take you to Mankato. There’s a bus station there.”

“Thanks.” She took the money. “What’s your name?”

I smiled. “Ginger.”

She twisted in her seat to see me better. “Stop. Seriously, what’s your name?”

“Cole Davis. Copper is my road name.” I gave her my full name to show she could trust me. I had no intention of hurting her.

She nodded. “Thank you, Cole Davis. I guess you’re not so bad, but I’m not sorry for messing up your pretty face.”

I grinned wide. “You think I’m pretty?”

Irisah rolled her eyes. “Well, you’re not ugly.”

“All right. I’ll take it.” I turned on the radio to my favorite classic rock station. “Life in the Fastlane” was on.

“I love the Eagles.” Irisah sang along.

“Me too.” I watched her out of the corner of my eye. “Do you have any siblings?”

“Nope, it’s just me.”

“Same.”
