She glanced at me. “Don’t get friendly with me and don’t ask any questions. I might hate my dad, but I won’t sell him out.”

“Fair enough.” She was loyal even when her old man didn’t deserve it. Color me surprised.

“That’s it?”

“Yup.” I turned up the volume. Storm wouldn’t appreciate me giving up so quickly, but I could tell Irisah wouldn’t give me shit. Why piss her off? I wanted to keepTazcalm if I had to be in the truck with her for two hours.

I joined in with her sing-along and wished we’d met under different circumstances. I liked her spunk. Could do without her nails digging into my face, but I didn’t blame her for fighting back. I admired her. I might’ve wanted to see her again, maybe dated her, and definitely wanted to peel her clothes off her body. Maybe more…

Damn brother, stop already.

What was I thinking?

I had joined the Knight’s Legion MC for the brotherhood and family unit I never had growing up in foster homes. I wanted brothers, not marriage or children.

The MC life was too freaking dangerous for a wife and kids.

I practically ran down the stairs with my hand pressed to my thundering heart. Tears burned behind my eyes. I wouldn’t let them fall. Not a single one.

I chanted to myself,he’s not himself, he’s not himself, he’s not himself.

Of course Drew wasn’t himself. He’d been hit in the head, knocked out cold, and had amnesia.

He’s not himself. It didn’t matter because he made me feel icky inside, the way he talked to me with a lecherous glint in his eyes.

“Ah!” I screamed when I plowed into a firm chest.

“Hey. Are you okay?” Boxer steadied me before I fell.

I stepped out of his grasp. “Sorry. I… I didn’t see you.”

“Did something happen with Ire?”

I shook my head. “No. Yes. I don’t know.”

Boxer narrowed his eyes. “Did he hurt you?”

“No.”

His jaw twitched like he didn’t believe me. “So why do you look like you were running from the Reaper?”

“Because he doesn’t know me. He doesn’t know my past, so he’s acting like a typical man.”

“Excuse me? A typical man?” He feigned hurt, pressing his hand to his heart.

“Sorry. I just mean he’s not treating me the way he used to. You know, carefully choosing his words and not invading my personal space.”

“I get it. You should tell Ire the truth.”

I shook my head. “What if this Ire doesn’t want me after hearing I was raped? If I tell him, and he never gets his memory back, I could lose him forever.”

“Ava, Patch is sure he’ll get his memory back.”

“Nothing is guaranteed, Boxer. I freaked up there is all. I’ll find it within myself to see this through.”
