“I hope your temperament is more like me, little one.” I rubbed my baby bump and yawned, still tired after staying out late for karaoke night.

The house alarm beeped as my man entered. “Where are my girls?” As if he didn’t know we’d be in the living room. When he left this morning, he’d put me on the sofa and made me a cup of ginger tea for my stomach.

Birdie squealed at the sound of his voice and crawled toward him. “Da, da, da!”

Kaleb punched in the code and strutted toward us. My heart fluttered. He scooped her into his arms, buried his face in the crook of her neck, and smothered her. I could watch them together all day long and never get tired of it. They were my universe.

“How’s my Angel?” He dropped a kiss on my lips.

I scrunched my nose and pressed my hand to my stomach. “You smell like bacon.” This pregnancy was more hard on me than Birdie’s. Meat and breakfast foods, in general, did not sit well with me, especially coffee. It was why I stayed home until lunchtime before going to the clubhouse.

“Sorry, baby. I’ll go brush my teeth.”

“You don’t have to. Just stay a few feet away.”

He cocked his head. “Nothing will keep me from you, Angel. I plan to kiss the hell out of you before I leave.” He set Birdie down at her piano and crouched beside her.

“Okay.” A shiver worked through me. I adored this man and how intensely he loved me. “But first, what do you plan to do? Did you get a unanimous vote to send a couple of guys to the Vipers?” I hadn’t questioned him last night, didn’t want to ruin my fun.

“Angel, you know I don’t like talking club business with you. You’re growing my baby and caring for our daughter. You don’t need anything else stressing you.”

“Really, Kaleb? Birdie doesn’t stress me out. Neither does being pregnant.” Honestly, could he be any more overprotective? You know he can.“I won’t say anything. You can trust me.”

Birdie looked at me, then at Kaleb. It was like she could sense the tension between us.

“I do trust you, baby. I haven’t even told Raul my thoughts.”

Hearing the worry in his voice made me sit up and go to him. I was just as overprotective of him as he was of me. We were so flipping perfect for each other. I took my spot on his lap. “Are you worried the club won’t like what you’ve decided?”

He wrapped his hulking arms around me and held me tightly. “Yeah. They voted yes, but whoever I select won’t like going.” My dark knight kept his breath away from my nose to shield me from the offending bacon. There was no one more considerate and priceless than my Kaleb Knight.

It was no wonder my poor husband had been tossing and turning at night after the first meeting with Deek. I wished I could carry the burden for him.

“Your brothers will respect whatever you decide, baby.” I kissed his neck and lightly scratched his nap the way he liked. “You’re their president and will do as you say.”

He ran his fingers through Birdie’s brown hair as if he needed to touch both of us. “I’m the luckiest man. I don’t take any of you for granted.”

“I know, my sweet man. We’re also lucky. Is there anything I can do for you while you’re gone?”

“Yes, actually.”

“Name it.” He rarely asked for anything, so when he did, I never refused.

“If you’re up to it, can you check on Sugar later today after she gets back from the spa? She’s been dealing with a lot. I’m worried about her.”

I pulled back to gaze into his stormy-gray eyes. “Like a day spa?” There wasn’t one in Bastion or Winters Townships.

He nodded.

“Where is it located? I’d love to go to one, but I think the nearest is in The Cities.”

He shrugged with his lips pursed together. Again, he was trying to not breathe in my face.

“I’ll ask her when I see her. I could use a massage.”

He growled, lifting me off his lap and putting me back on the sofa. “Only I get to touch your bare skin,” he said as he walked up the stairs. “I’ll be back, then I’m going to kiss you properly.”

I stared at my studly man’s yummy ass as he took the stairs two at a time, feeling warm and gooey. He was all mine, just as I’d dreamed of when I was a preteen. I loved many things about Kaleb, but what I adored most was his fierce love. Birdie and I got a side of him no one else ever saw, a gentle, playful side. He treated us like we were priceless, fragile dolls.
