“Mmm, I like the sound of that. It’s naughty and sinful. Plus, it’ll give us time to figure out how to tell everyone about us.”

“Christ, you’re speaking to my heart. I’ve been dying for you to get on board, sweetness. It’s like we’re finally real, finally together as a couple.” I’d like to say I knew Eve would eventually come around, but there had been a bit of doubt niggling away at me.

“I’m still worried, but I haven’t been this happy in a long time. How long will you be out there?”

“At least a few weeks. Maybe a month.” I brushed my thumb over the dark cloud tattoo under her breast. I was finally close enough to read the inscription. I wished I hadn’t…

Each raindrop marks a moment in time I’m alone and missing you. There were dozens of droplets cascading all the way down past her waist. They weren’t raindrops; they signified her tears.

Eve covered my hand with hers. “Stay focused on me.”

“I am. This here shows how much you loved him.” Why had I said anything at all? I just couldn’t control my damn mouth.

Eve crossed her arms over her tits and scowled. “Don’t you dare make me feel bad about loving my husband, grieving his death, and missing him. I will not apologize to you or anyone else.”

Nice going, asshole.

“Sweetness, I’m sorry. It wasn’t my intention to make you feel bad.” I sat up and wrapped my arms around her. “Won’t happen again.”

“I get it. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for you to deal with the knowledge that Matt was my everything, my soul mate. If I were in your place, I’d be jealous too. But Art, Matt isn’t here, and though I’ll always love him and miss him, there is room in my heart for you.”

“A little nugget of space for me, huh?” Yeah, I sounded like an envious, wounded jackass. Why couldn’t I be more like Storm or Ire? Those two never showed their emotions, much less talked about them. But who knew, maybe they opened up to their women.

“Aww, you’re so adorable. It’s you who’s given me the courage to step into the light of the living. The time we’ve spent together has been incredible. You’re the only man I want, Art. I never thought I could love another man, but I do. I love you.”

Damn, if she didn’t chase away all my doubts.

“And you’re the only woman I’ll ever love, Eve.”

She smiled as she raised up and lowered onto my cock, raised up and dropped. “Let’s go once more before we head back.”

“My thoughts exactly. I’m not sure when I need to be in The Cities. It could be as early as tonight.”

“Not tonight.”

“We don’t call the shots.”

“Fine. But Art?”

“Yes, sweetness?”

“Matt was my first, but you’re my last.” She nearly made me weep.

Storm

I tapped my thumb on my beer bottle as I sat in my office. When my crew and I returned to the club, not one of us was in a good fuckin’ mood. Knights didn’t help the enemy, yet we were doing just that with the Vipers. I was about to tell Deek no when fuckin’ Art had announced he’d do the job, then the fucker left.

Before I gave Art hell, I’d gone to check in with Angel and cuddled my baby girl. If my girls couldn’t defuse me, nothing could. They had calmed me until Maddy mentioned not seeing Sugar around all afternoon. My aunt had left before Angel had made it to the clubhouse. The information fired me right back up. Not finding Art in the club added fuel to the flames.

After spending a little time with my family, I’d found Grizzly to track Art. My request seemed to bother Grizz, but he gave me the location, which happened to be the same place Sugar was at: the Fallen Soldier’s clubhouse.

So here I sat, drinking my beer and stewing over Sugar and Art and wondering what in the hell they were both doing in Iowa. Sugar had probably gone to see Jack, which didn’t make me happy. If she wanted to be released from the Knights, I needed to take a vote. As for Art, I wasn’t aware of a tattoo appointment with any Soldiers.

I needed answers… yesterday.

I raised my gaze, sensing someone standing in the doorway. I hadn’t shut the door to hear when my aunt and treasurer arrived.
