As for Jack? I fuckin’ didn’t want him in her life, but what could I do? Sugar was a grown woman and could be with whoever she wanted. Uncle Matt wouldn’t want me controlling her love life, and I sure as hell didn’t want to get caught up in it. Lord knew I’d catch heat from Angel if I dictated who Sugar could date.

I just hoped Jack wasn’t the object of Sugar’s desire.

I booked it back to the clubhouse. Storm and Hero would return within the hour. No question Storm would call me into his office and give me hell for not telling him about the new threat to his territory. I’d been so wrapped in Art it had slipped my mind.

What kind of excuse could I give my nephew that would appease him for my forgetfulness? I couldn’t claim temporary insanity due to my love affair with Art.

Crap, it felt like everything was about to unravel at the seams.

There was only one thing I could do, come clean with Angel and the other old ladies. After avoiding them all week, I needed their support when all hell broke loose.

Maddox opened the gate for me, and I went straight for my parking spot, killed the engine, and dashed inside the clubhouse.

The first person I saw was Tina. “Oh my gosh, everything is going to shit!”

“What’s going on?”

I took her hand and dragged her to the kitchen. “Where’s Maddy? Are there any other old ladies around? We need to convene. Join forces. Band together.”

“Honey, calm down. What’s going on?”

Maddy, Snow, and Emilee were at the kitchen table with their babies.

“I have a confession!” That got everyone’s attention. “But before I breathe life into it, please don’t drop me like a bad habit. Please don’t shun me or call me horrible names like a cougar or cradle robber.” I pressed my hand to my chest. “I wouldn’t be able to take it. I’d die.” Hot tears filled my eyes.

Maddy came and put her arm around me. “Sugar, what happened?”

I bent over, holding my stomach, on the brink of hyperventilating. “I…” I snapped my mouth shut, terrified of the backlash I was about to receive.

“It’s okay, honey.” Tina rubbed my back. “It’ll be just fine.”

“Nothing you tell us could ever make us push you away, Sugar. Nothing.” Maddy’s assurance meant everything to me. The old ladies were vital to my happiness. I needed them as much as I did Art. I couldn’t lose any of the people I loved, especially my sons. “Oh God, my sons.” I was going to be sick. How could I bring this drama into their lives?

“You can trust us, honey,” Tina whispered. “Tell them. It’ll be okay.”

I tried to collect myself, which wasn’t easy, with my heart racing and my stomach in a knot. Falling apart like this wasn’t like me at all. Emilee and Snow were out of their chairs and beside Maddy and Tina. My sweet friends had made a circle around me, cocooning me in love and support.

“Okay.” I cleared my throat and straightened my spine.Just say it.“I’m in love withArt,” I whispered his name. “We’ve been sneaking around for a couple of weeks. Maybe longer. I don’t even know how long it’s been.”

“Oh, Sugar. That’s wonderful,” Maddy sang in her beautiful voice. “So why are you upset?”

“Because my whole world is going to go up in smoke. My boys are going to hate it. Storm’s going to hate it. All the patched members will hate it.” Bile inched its way into my throat. “I’m going to be sick.” I raced to the kitchen sink and gagged.

“You’re worked up, honey. Don’t panic.” Tina brought me a bottle of water. “Just breathe.”

“You don’t understand. I forgot to tell Storm important information. I was so wrapped up in Art and our secret love affair I dropped the ball. Now Storm’s going to corner me, and I’ll be forced to tell him the truth.”

“Sugar, telling Storm the truth isn’t a bad thing.” Maddy handed me a paper towel. “Keeping secrets won’t end well for you, but especially for Art.”

I hung my head. “Art has no idea what’s gone down. I need to tell him before our lives come crashing down.”

“I don’t see anything wrong being with Art,” Emilee said. “He’s a good man.”

“I agree.” Snow went back to Max, sitting in a highchair. “It’s not like you’re twice Art’s age. If you both are in love, who are we or anyone else to say otherwise?”
