I exhaled a labored breath. “It’s the club I’m worried about. The guys are incredibly loyal. They might think it’s a betrayal to Matt.”

“Or they might not.” Emilee waddled back to her chair at the table.

“Boxer would never tell you who to love. I promise you, my guy will stay out of it. I’ll see to it.” Snow winked.

“Same.” Maddy took my hand. “Storm won’t stand in your way, sweets. It might be weird for him and the others at first, but in the end, they love you. They will want you happy, even if it’s with Art.”

“See?” Tina sidled up beside. “I told you they’d stand by you. You have nothing to worry about, honey.”

“She was worried?” Maddy shot me a surprised look. “Sugar, we have all sensed something was between you and Art for a while. But you kept denying it so we let it go.”

I shook my head, wholly frustrated with myself. “I’m such an idiot to doubt all of you. But what do I do now? Storm and Hero will be back soon. Art is totally in the dark. I need to see him and fill him in on what’s going on.”

“So call him,” Emilee said.

I bit my bottom lip. “Well, I was supposed to meet him in a couple of hours. But maybe I shouldn’t.”

Maddy pulled me away from the counter. “Go see your man and work it out with him. I’ll handle my guy.”

Hearing someone else call Artmineoddly made it real for me. “Really? You think I should go? What about my boys?” I’d never felt so torn about what to do about anything.

After Matt died, I believed Maddox and Markey were all I needed to be content in life without my beloved. But once the boys went to high school, loneliness had crept in. Then Storm and Maddy got together, and more members fell in love and had families. I had realized I didn’t want to be alone until I drew my last breath and was reunited with my soul mate, Matt. I had a lot of life in me, desires, and so much more love to give to let it go to waste.

“Well, that is a tough one.” Maddy tapped her finger on her lips. “With Markey in Arizona, you only need to worry about Maddox.”

I winced. “Maddox is the one I’m most worried about.”

“Right.” Maddy exhaled as she paced in front of me. “Maddox or Art, Art or Maddox… Dang, they’re all important.”

“Yes, they are.” I was leaning toward staying and telling Art over the phone what was going on until…

Tina looped her arm through mine. “But her relationship with Art is still new and fragile. Her boys won’t reject her. They might be angry, but they’ll get over it… eventually. But there’s no telling what the club will do to Art. He needs to be warned.” Tina made an excellent point. “Go see him, honey. You both need to connect and get on the same page.”

“I agree with Tina,” Maddy said. “I hate to think this will blow up in your face. Those Knights are loyal, and several overreact emotionally at first. Ahem, Storm,” she said his name in a hushed tone.

Little Max started to fuss. Snow took him out of the highchair and bounced him on her hip. My heart yearned for a baby, and my arms ached to cuddle a squishy little body. Art was the man I wanted to share every experience with from this day forward until the end of time.

My mind was made up. “I’m going.” I hugged Tina, then Maddy. “Thank you all so much. You girls are the best.”

“We’ve got your back, babe.” Maddy did her cute little clap. “I’m so excited for you!”

“Well, don’t get too excited. Storm and my boys may put the kibosh on everything.”

“Nope, not Storm,” Maddy replied confidently. “I can’t speak for your sons.”

“Let’s not rehash this.” Tina shuffled me toward the door. “Get gone, Sugar. We’ll take care of stuff here.”

“Okay! I’m going. Thank you, loves!” I hurried back out to my car before Storm and Hero returned.

Again, I had an obstacle to clear at the gate.

Maddox approached my car when I stopped. “Leaving so soon, Mom?”

I forced a smile. “Mhm. Busy, busy… you know how it is.”

He considered me a long second. “Is something going on with you? You never leave the compound this much.”

Shit, shit, shit!
