I wiped away tears. I didn’t care if crying in front of my president made me look weak. He would be a mess if he’d watched Angel get shot up with meth. I had fucking believed Eve was done for, and I’d never see her again. Well, I was on death’s door too, so I hoped I’d see her.

“Christ, I need to see her.”

“The nurse will bring her to you.”

I crossed my arms over my face to hide my emotions. “You need to find that bastard.”

“We will. What do you know or remember?”

“He said he was the one who sold Eve’s brother Johnny the drugs. His parents had cooked and dispersed the drug to him and other dealers back then.”

“Fuck,” Prez hissed.

“He’d seen Eve in the Wild Hog and thought it was fate bringing her into his life. The dude is messed up. Probably a druggie. He wanted revenge for his parent’s death and thought he’d take it out on Eve.”

“He won’t get away with it.”

“Good. I’ll be of no help while laid up, but when you catch him, I want to finish him.”

“We will catch him. Grizz is working on it. Once I tell Hendricks who is behind this, he’ll give me his approval to do whatever it takes. I’ll make sure you have the honors.”

I rubbed the back of my hand against my nose. “Okay.”

Prez cleared his throat. “You should’ve told me about you and Eve. I had no clue you two were involved. I only knew about Jack.”

“Jack? Don’t even mention him.” I should’ve known he’d bring up Eve and me, but mentioning that Soldier pissed me off. “I would’ve told you, but Eve—”

Storm raised his hand. “I know why she didn’t want you telling me. You two have been through enough.” He pointed his finger at me. “Don’t ever hide anything or lie to me again. You got me?”

“Yeah, I got you.”

“Jack is here with the Soldiers providing security.”

“I do not want him visiting Eve. Under no circumstances.”

The door opened, and a nurse wheeled in my girl. “You have a very anxious visitor, Mr. Panek. I’ll be back in fifteen minutes to take Ms. Knight back to her room.” She put Eve beside Storm.

“That won’t be necessary. I’m staying with him until he’s discharged,” Eve told the nurse.

“Well, you’ll need to discuss that with your doctor,” the nurse replied in a snippy tone. “You both need your rest.”

“Lady, don’t tell me what I need to do.” She reached her hand out to Storm. “Help me up, please.”

I grinned at my sweetness’s stubbornness and badassery.

The nurse huffed as she left the room.

“God, she annoys me.” She leaned toward me. “Hi, baby.” She kissed me without hesitation in front of Storm.

“Eve, you need to get your fine ass in this bed with me.”

“Christ, I do not want to hear this,” Storm muttered.

“Then, dear nephew, help me into his bed so you can leave.” Eve gazed into my eyes and stroked my chin. “You’re alive.”

“So are you.” I tracked her movements, noting the fatigue in her eyes. Storm guided her to the right side of my bed. My injury was on the left side.

“Can you get a couple of extra blankets, honey? I’ve had the chills off and on.” Eve sat on the bed. She slowly lifted her legs and cuddled into my side.
