Fuck, she was breathtaking with her cheeks and nose pink.

She bobbed her head. “Mhm. I’ve never been on a motorcycle before.” Her body shook as she smiled.

“Cold?”

“Adrenaline. And I might be a little nervous.” Her gaze swooped toward the building.

I took her hand to help her off the bike, then reeled her into my arms. “Why are you nervous?”

“I don’t know.”

I cupped the back of her neck. She was tense, so I kneaded it softly. “You’re safe here, Eve. No one will hurt you.”

“It’s just… I’ve never been around a rough crowd. You’re not exactly the type of guy I’ve dated.”

I growled low. “I don’t want to know about the guys you dated.” The very thought of a dude putting his hands on her made me murderous. “Do you want me to take you home?” A sharp pain exploded in my chest. I prayed she said no. There was no way I could let her go.

One of the club girls exited the building in a bedazzled bra, leather pants, and red fuck-me heels.

Rhonda flashed a mega-watt smile. “Hi, Matt. Been wondering when you’d return, baby.”

“Oh.” Eve slipped out of my arms and stepped away from me. “If I can use your phone, I’ll get my own ride home.”

I flew off my bike and had Eve in my arms in two seconds flat, like I had at The Bullet. “I don’t want you to leave.”

“Put me down. It looks like you already have a woman.” She nodded toward the kitten. We didn’t call our club girls sweet butts or club whores like in my brother’s club. They might have sex with members—all my brothers—but it was their choice. We didn’t treat our kittens like whores. We showed them respect.

“Oh, Matt has more than me.” Rhonda pushed her chest out. “He has five of us.”

Christ, would the woman shut up?

“That is disgusting,” Eve hissed. “Put me the fuck down, Matt. I don’t want you anymore.” She pushed on my chest, a fire in her eyes.

Her words hurt me, and nothing had hurt me. It proved Eve was special.

I put her over my shoulder. “I’m not letting you leave.” Like an angry caveman, I blew past the shocked kitten to go into the clubhouse. I took the stairs up to my bedroom.

Eve beat on my back. “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll put me down!”

I did know what was good for me. Eve was.

She struggled in my arms as I unlocked the door and kicked it shut. Damn, she was pissed as hell at me. I dropped her onto the bed. She bounced off it and bolted for the door. I grabbed her by the wrist and jerked her back.

“Sit and listen to me!” I roared.

“Do I look like a dog, asshole?” She attempted to pull her hand out of mine. “Let go of me.”

“Will you fucking hear me out?” My heart raced in my chest. I’d been in many dangerous situations over the years. Been shot at and beaten nearly to death during a club war with another MC. Not one of those times had I felt fear the way I did at the thought of never seeing Eve again.

“I don’t see what there’s to talk about. You have your harem of women downstairs. If you need to fuck someone, get one of them!”

I released her and went to lean against the door. She wasn’t strong enough to move me out of the way.

She crossed her arms over her chest. “You’re such a jerk. I don’t know what I was thinking, agreeing to come here with you.”

Goddamn, that pain in my chest spread through my body. “Really? You’re telling me you don’t feel the connection we have?” I’d bet my life fate had brought us together. Or it’d be one big fucking coincidence if not.

How could she not feel what I felt?
