“Why would I want to do that?” I sure hoped no one heard my heart violently thumping in my ears the way I could. This man was beautiful, despite his obnoxious, bossy attitude. He towered above me to the point I had to crane my neck to make eye contact. His shoulders were broad and blocked my view of the dance floor. I couldn’t even imagine dancing with him. He wasthatbig.

His lip twitched. “Because, baby, you just won the lottery.”

I furrowed my brow, not sure what the hell he meant. He was cocky, all right. In an overconfident, he-knew-he-was-every-woman’s-wet-dream sort of way. Unfortunately for him, I was immune to caveman traits, and I didn’t gamble.

When my dirty, dark side thought of the perfect guy to dominate me, Mr. Hottie wasn’t at all what I imagined. Nope, not at all. I had a feeling he would be too much for little old me. It was best to give him attitude, frustrate him so he’d move on to someone less aggravating.

“Wow! Lucky me.” I feigned surprise and turned toward Mickey. She seemed to be in a trance. “Did you hear that, Mick?” I nudged her with my elbow. “I just won the lottery.”

No response.

“I’m getting impatient with you, sugar.” He took my hand, but I slipped it out of his giant paw just as fast and secured it with my other behind my back.

“I’d like to donate my winnings.”

“The fuck you say?” he hissed through gritted teeth and stepped closer to me.

“To my best friend, Mickey. She’s enamored with you and would make better use of the prize than me. Best of luck to you both.” I turned away from him and retrieved my drink with a shaky hand. The green liquid sloshed around when I lifted it to my lips. I drank half of it in one gulp, hoping it would settle my nerves.

The dude growled so loud, people turned in our direction. My face flamed red hot with embarrassment. What an animal!

Why me? It was my birthday, for goodness’ sake. Sure I wanted to party, but not like this. Or with him.

My back was pressed to what I guessed was his front. A thick, tattooed arm snaked around my waist possessively.

I stilled, my heart thundering in my chest, not with fear but with excitement. No man had ever been forward with me. I might have second thoughts about him. After all, he seemed to know what he wanted. I freaking loved that it appeared to be me.

His lips tickled my earlobe as his sultry breath sent a shiver down my spine. “If I walk away, you’ll be making the biggest mistake of your life, sugar.” The heat and power of this man wrapped around me like a cozy blanket on a subzero Minnesota day.

I melted into him on the spot.

Apparently, my reaction was enough for him. He swept me off my feet and carried me down a long hallway like a groom would carry his bride over a threshold.

I didn’t object.

Leather and tobacco mixed with some kind of alcohol and aftershave tickled my nose as I was held in his strong arms.

I liked it, probably more than I should, considering he was a stranger. A big-ass, forceful stranger. I should be afraid, not knowing this man.

He could hurt me.

Kill me.

Or he could be thebestcrazy-insane decision of my life.

We entered a dark room. Strangely, I wasn’t creeped out, but maybe I should have been after he didn’t turn on the lights.

I jerked in his arms when the door slammed shut. My ass dropped onto a hard surface. A desk, I assumed.

Okay, what was this guy thinking? Was he only looking to hook up?

Duh, Eve!

Poor guy was about to be disappointed, because I didn’t have sex with strangers.

Large hands skimmed over my knees and thighs. I trembled with an energy I’d never felt before. I even clenched down low. This scene was playing out the way my dark and dirty mind often imagined. Although, I hadn’t for a second believed it would ever happen.

The hem of my shirt lifted slowly, as if he was waiting to see if I’d object.
