I couldn’t. I was too damn curious to see where this went.

I sucked in a breath when the tips of his fingers brushed my skin. They were rough and scratchy, kind of like those of farmers who worked from sunup to sundown.

However, this man was no farmer. He might use his hands to build stuff, but he wasn’t acting like the good ole boys I’d gone to school with since kindergarten.

“Is this how it is with you?” Might as well bring whatever this was to an end. “No introduction or talking? I can’t even see your face.”

He grunted, lifting my top, his lips following his fingers up my torso.

Holy balls, he was by far the most forward person I’d ever encountered—which wasn’t saying much since many in my inner circle of friends and family were in law enforcement or down-home folks.

I quaked when he pushed me down on the desk, which was surprisingly bare. Did he bring all the women he met in here? The thought made me angry. I didn’t want to be just another one of his conquests, not when he made me feel all kinds of sparks in my core and flutters in my heart.

It was totally insane to feel this way after meeting him not ten minutes ago.

Hold up! Had my appletini been spiked? Roofied?

I firmly grabbed his face and stopped him. “No.”

His chest heaved against my stomach. “What?” He gritted his teeth as he dragged his massive body against mine.

Wow, he weighed a lot. I liked the feel of being pinned down. What the hell, Eve?

His breath bathed my lips in warmth as his face hovered above mine.

I swallowed, gathering my nerves to set this man straight. It could end badly, but I wasn’t known for keeping my mouth shut. I obeyed my daddy’s rules and the law, but my mouth was a whole other thing. “You don’t get to just take me, mister. Treat me with some respect if you want me.”

Silence.

A long minute passed between us while his body crushed mine to the desk. I wasn’t sure what to do. Knee him in the balls? I’d never hurt a guy like that before, but there was a first for everything, especially if this man thought he was going to force himself on me.

His breathing deepened, a low growl rumbling in his chest.

Awkward.

What was he thinking? Would he really take me against my will?

He could try, but I’d fight him with all my might.

Then again, with the music blaring, nobody would hear me scream.

Would I scream? Or fight? Fuck if I knew… That in and of itself was insane.

He climbed off of me.

A low whimper left my lips. Was he rejecting me? Dammit. If he was, why did I feel disappointed? Why did I miss his body on mine?

The lights flashed on. I closed my eyes after seeing stars, then blinked them open. It was then I noticed his leather vest.

Was he in that motorcycle gang? I wanted to curse my bad luck in one breath, and in the other, I wanted to cheer with excitement.

His hands were fisted as he stared with a hungry, lethal expression.

I lifted to my elbows for a better look. He was breathtaking, with a sharp square jaw, deep stormy eyes, thick brows, and jet-black hair—and so handsome, just the way I liked my man.

He could have me; he was so magnificent. I just wanted to know his name first, maybe have a brief conversation. Was that too much to ask for before getting it on? Then again, I had no idea what went on between two strangers who just met, felt an out-of-this-world connection, and wanted to have a one-night stand.

“Well, what’s your name?”
