“Shouldn’t be more than a week to get everything in order.” And I wanted to avoid Karma and Nova. Strangely, my favorite nurse popped into my head when they were around. We’d only been home a few hours, and seeing them messed with my resolve to never see Nurse Naughty again.

“I think that’s wise,” Dad said. “If shit hits the fan, the casino needs to run without you boys.”

“All right, then I’m out.” I got to my feet.

Cobra raised his hand to stop me. “Don’t forget the barbeque Lady M’s planning for Karma’s birthday on Sunday. Just because we’re on lockdown doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate my woman.”

“I really don’t need anything,” she said. “After turning twenty-one, birthdays don’t matter anymore. Well, except for Nova’s.”

“Then you tell Lady M you don’t want a party.” Cobra eyed her.

“Do I look like a fool?” Karma laughed. “You tell her.”

“No chance. I’ve missed too many birthdays.” He kissed her. Those two were so sugary sweet that I felt a cavity coming on.

“You guys are too much.” Buff pushed his chair out and left. Bone said nothing and followed him.

“Well, who’s taking me to the hospital?” Piper crossed her arms. “I’m working the evening shift tonight. I assume I can’t drive myself.”

“I can take you since I’m heading out that way to the casino.” I’d have to drive my Jeep because Piper refused to ride bitch on her brothers’ hogs.

“I’ll be ready in an hour.” She dashed out of the kitchen.

Cobra turned his head toward Spectre. “Get a couple of prospects out at the hospital.”

“Will do. I have some business to take care of, but I’ll be at the hospital guarding Piper.” He cut his eyes at Karma on his way out.

“Good.” Cobra clasped his hands together and leveled his gaze at our dad. “Am I overreacting?” He hadn’t been president for too long and sought out our father’s opinion when he wasn’t sure what to do. It was a show of respect. Cobra wasn’t full of himself, thinking he knew everything like some men.

“No, son. This is your club, your family. You do whatcha gotta do to protect them.”

“I’ll go check on Nova and give you some privacy,” Karma announced and stood from her chair.

“Thanks, baby.” Cobra patted her ass. “We’ll run back to our place to pack some bags in a little while.”

“Okay.”

“Have you called Storm to tell him about the girl?” Dad asked once Karma was out of the kitchen.

“Yeah, before we left Minot.”

“Is he calling off the search?”

“It sounded like it. He said Wolf wouldn’t take it well. The brother was obsessed with finding her, but since she’s dead—”

“According to Doug,” I growled. “Can he really be trusted?” The asshole had betrayed his Prez, club, and MC brothers. I’d say we couldn’t believe anything he said.

“We have no other leads,” he told me. “It’s not our problem. We have our own shit going on here.”

“It’s too bad about the girl.” Dad shook his head. “She’s not the first casualty we’ve seen. Being a mafia princess didn’t help. She was born with a target on her back, much like Piper.”

“We’ll protect our sister,” Cobra told our father.

“Damn straight, we will.” We’d all take a bullet for Piper. Give our life to spare hers without a second thought. She was the best one out of all of us, strong and stubborn like Lady M. She’d never hurt anyone and had the biggest heart.

Although, now that Cobra had his woman and kid, his order of priorities had changed. I was sure he’d do anything to keep our family and club safe. However, he might get distracted. It made sense. Nothing had diverted his attention before his woman and child were in the picture. Like every other Knight, he was over-the-top possessive and protective, especially of his woman.

All the more reason to stay single. Why complicate things?
