“Oh shit.” I slid onto the ground and covered my head with my hands when Mason lifted a big-ass rifle. This was going to end badly. “Jonah, he won’t stop until he finds me.”

“I won’t let anything happen to you.” He tugged on my hair gently. “I promise.”

I lifted my face, meeting Jonah’s gaze. “You just rattled a hornet’s nest. When Keg stings, it’s deadly.”

“Do you not know me?” He pointed at his chest, appearing hurt and offended. “I’m not exactly a nice guy.”

“It’s been a while.” I tilted my head to one side and popped up my shoulder. It was a pathetic attempt to be playful and alluring with a mangled face.

“I’ll remind you as soon as we’re alone.” His gaze burned with a heady mixture of lust and desire.

It was just like old times.

My mouth went dry, thirsty for his kiss. Every inch of my body begged for his touch, but what I wanted most was his...

“If we make it out of this shit.” I doused the flames spreading between us with a bucket of ice water. Why play with fire when we couldn’t be together again?

“You really don’t remember who I am. That’s fucking heartbreaking.”

Of course, I remembered. I adored every bit of Jonah down to my soul. Nowthatwas fucking heartbreaking.

I screeched, covering my ears with my hands. Bullets hit the back of the truck, pinging off the metal. Jonah and Mason returned fire. I wished I could see if one of them hit Keg’s black beauty. That stupid car meant more to him than anyone. More than his momma, sister, and nephew.

I hoped he crashed the bitch, and she died a fiery death.

Hateful much, Reign? Just a little. I wanted to hurt Keg as much as he hurt me. Perhaps the car shouldn’t be punished for his evilness.

Part of the back window shattered, and pieces of glass rained down on me.

“Gotta go faster, cuz. This asshole’s going to destroy my truck!” Jonah continued to shoot at Keg.

I felt a little bad about his truck getting damaged. Then again, he stole me away. He had to know Keg wouldn’t let him disrespect him publicly and take what didn’t belong to him.

What the fuck, Reign? You always belonged to Jonah.

Yes, I had. Although I never thought I’d see him again.

I was terrified of what might happen to my family. Keg had shown to be a man of his word. If he made a threat, he followed through with it. I believed him when he said he would kill my family if I tried to run away.

I didn’t run. Jonah took me against my will. Sort of.

But I did stab Keg with the chunk of glass. He’d make me pay for hurting him. Punish me for trying to kill him. Then he’d go after my family… and Jonah.

“Son of a bitch!” Jonah cried out.

“Are you okay?” I twisted around to see what had happened.

“Yeah. Grab me a shirt out of the bag to soak up the blood.”

“Blood? You got hit?”

“Yes. Get me a shirt.”

I dug into the bag, my heart racing as dread settled in my belly.Jonah’s been shot.Keg must’ve had someone with him. He couldn’t drive and fire a gun at the same time. Could he? Sure he could. The Devil could do anything.

“I’m gonna turn sharp here. Hold on!” Maddox hollered, not giving me two seconds to brace myself.

I screamed, getting flung to the side. Jonah fell on me with a heavy thud.
