Except we all knew skeletons usually found a way out of the closet. And those bastards destroyed lives.

Reign

Jonah parked his truck in front of his childhood home. A gush of happy memories flooded back, making me tear up.

“You’re home, baby.” He took my hand and kissed the top. “Let’s go.”

“Okay.” I let him help me get out on his side and inhaled a deep breath. This wasn’t my home, but it was a close second. His family had made me feel welcome and part of their club since the day Jonah introduced me to them as his girlfriend, when I was a blushing teenage girl in love with a bad boy biker.

But this wasn’t my home. My parents weren’t here.

When we reached the front porch steps, I tugged on his hand. “Wait.”

“What’s wrong?”

I didn’t want to talk in front of Bone, Easton, and Mason. There was a lot Jonah and I needed to discuss, but not in front of the others. Everything had happened so fast that my head was still spinning. I glanced at Bone, the Goode brothers, and then Jonah.

“Oh.” He turned to the guys. “Why don’t you go inside.”

“Okay, boss.” Easton opened the door and waved Mason and Bone through.

“What’s wrong, baby?” Jonah put his hands on my waist. “Are you nervous? Because you don’t have to be.”

Bone eyed me as he shut the door. He and Cobra were the most intimidating of the brothers, but I was confident Jonah wouldn’t let them hurt me.

“I’m a little nervous, but something else is bothering me.”

“Okay, so what’s bothering you?”

“When am I going to see my family? If Keg’s alive, we need to protect them.” My heart started to race as horrible images of that monster hurting them flashed in my head. “He will kill them, Jonah.”

“First things first. I need to convene with Cobra and the others. We need to know the status of Keg and put a plan togetherifhe’s alive.”

“I understand. There may not be anything to worry about. I just want to be sure. And I want to see my parents.”

“Youwillsee your family.”

“When? Today? Tomorrow? Next week. I need to know when Jonah.” I put my hands on his and squeezed. “At least let me call and warn them that they’re in danger.”

“You can’t call them. Their phones might be tapped. The whole house could be under surveillance. We need to be smart about this and find out what we’re dealing with before we act.”

“No.” I shook my head. “They could be at risk, now.” I pushed him away and stomped toward the driveway. I’d fucking walk to my parent’s place, even though they lived more than forty miles away from the Knight’s farm.

“Stop.” He grabbed my hand and whirled me around. “You’re not leaving. Will you try to be rational.”

“My family hasn’t seen me in years. Years, Jonah. They might need me.” I pounded on my chest.

“You can’t do shit for them. You’re one person. Keg will bring an army with him if he’s still alive.”

“Exactly, so do something! Do something now, Jonah! Please, before it’s too late.” I’d been holding all this in on the drive from South Dakota to Fargo. I had to get it all out before we went inside.

“Sweetheart, we don’t even know if he’s alive. Believe me, I will do everything possible to protect your family. We have a protocol. Cobra calls the shots, but he will secure your family’s safety if needed. I promise.”

“You promise?”

“I promise.” He hugged me and buried his face in my hair.
