“What you say about my girl?” Hustler scowled. “Hope better not be drooling over a bunch of pansy rock stars.

“It’s not only Piper and Hope. Karma gets in on it too.” Stitch must have a death wish, bringing Cobra’s old lady into the discussion.

Cobra stood from his chair. “Church over.” He slammed the mallet on the table and stormed out of the room. At that moment, he reminded me a lot of Storm. Our cousin quickly lost his shit over his old lady, Angel. But I called it true love. A little possessive and over the top, but I hadn’t ever seen a man so enamored with his wife more than Storm with his Angel.

I could see myself being just like him and Cobra with my woman.

Reign’s beautiful face appeared behind my eyes, and I suddenly tasted her.

I wanted her badly.

Right this second.

“Go take care of your girl.” Dad nudged my shoulder.

“Yes, sir.” I’d take care of her real good.

I hoped Reign was okay with the old ladies. She would probably want to leave immediately to her parent’s place. I checked the time. Bill didn’t get off of work until after seven, and it was only after four. I relaxed in the chair, taking a breather.

“What’s the holdup?” Stitch asked, still sitting next to me.

“Nothing. Just thinking.”

“About what?” He glanced around the room. “Your woman is waiting for you.”

“Yeah. What about your woman? Are you working tonight?” I eyed him, pretending like I had the goods on him. Nothing had been confirmed, but I’d spied Stitch with Mercy, Hope’s bestie, a few times. Usually in the hospital parking lot. Sure they were only talking and not kissing or groping each other.

None of that mattered. The chemistry surrounding them flickered and crackled like lightning in the sky each time I saw them.

“I don’t have a woman.” He shook his head, grinning. “Idiot.”

“Okay. If you say so.” I stood and stretched my back.

“Why are you asking?” He appeared worried. “Have you been checking up on me?”

“No reason. Just thought you had a woman. Y’know, all those late nights.” I was totally bullshitting him now. I had no idea what time Stitch got home from work. I wasn’t his keeper.

“I work the graveyard shift.”

“I know.”

“Are you screwing with me?” Stitch’s face turned red.

“Yes. Yes, I am.” I patted his shoulder and made my way out of the room.

“Hey!”

I stopped in the doorway. “What?”

“I’m leaving at five if you want me to examine Reign before I go.”

“Okay. Thanks.”

“Buff?” His serious tone stopped me.

I turned around to face him. “Yeah?”

“Leave it alone.”
