“What are you talking about?” I was genuinely confused.

“This business about me having a woman. Don’t go digging. Don’t bring it up again.”

“I was just—”

“Don’t,” he growled from the chair. “Don’t.”

Well, well…

“No worries, brother. I don’t have time to stick my nose in your business,” I told him in assuring tone.

“Good.”

“Later.” I threw up a hand, more confident than before that Stitch had a chick he was hiding.

Could it be the nurse, Mercy?

Or someone else?

Or perhaps Doctor McHottie had someone elseandthe nurse, and didn’t want either of them to find out about the other? That would be a wicked love triangle.

I shook my head, going into the bathroom. I needed to take a piss before I went and got my girl.

The more I thought about it, Stitch didn’t have two women. He was a straight-up manwhore. He slept around and stayed detached. No emotions. Just great sex. At least from what he bragged about.

Maybe he’s changed his ways.

Mercy was a beauty.

Much too good for Doctor McHottie.

My face hurt from smiling. Karma and Hope carried the conversation after Lady M took Nova upstairs to put a movie on. I kept waiting for Piper to enter the kitchen and strangle me.

Of all the Knights, Piper was the one I feared most. She had told me she would hate me until the end of time for breaking Jonah’s heart. I believed her.

I touched my neck. Keg had choked me a few times. I really didn’t want to have a near-death experience at the hands of Jonah’s little sister. No question she’d finish the job, unlike Keg, who only liked to scare the life out of me.

“Reign?” Karma’s voice jolted me out of my thought.

“Hmm?”

“Did you want a piece of cake?” She raised a two-layer chocolate cake.

“No thanks.” I glance at the clock.

“Is there somewhere you need to be?” Hoped peered at the clock. Her green eyes were big and round, like a cat’s. She was beautiful and Hustler’s girlfriend. They were having a baby in February. Jonah had told me little about their story in the truck.

“I’m just anxious to see my parents.” I shrugged and smiled, not entirely sure how much to tell them. Jonah hadn’t said one way or the other.

“When did you see them last?” Karma asked, then took a big bite of the cake.

“Two years ago. They had flown out to New York for Christmas.” It had been the best Christmas I’d ever had. We’d gone ice skating in Rockefeller Center, wandered through Center Park with hot chocolate, and took a carriage ride before we saw the Nutcracker. We did all the New York City tourist things.

“How wonderful. You must really miss them.” Hope smiled and sipped her cup of tea. She had a queasy stomach, so Lady M had made her peppermint tea.
