“It’s just, I love her so damn much, but this shit with Keg is driving me nuts. If anything were to happen to her, I’d kill myself. I can’t lose her again.” So why in the fuck did I behave like an asshat? Fear and the doubts Spectre had planted in my head came to mind.
“That’s it! I want you home now! Bone and Easton will handle Reign’s family.”
“No, I’m okay.”
“No, you aren’t, little brother. You’re unstable.”
“I have to do this myself. It’s the first step in righting my wrong with how I treated Reign.”
“Shit, you and Hustler are the boy scouts in the family.”
“Brother, you’re the biggest ass kisser out of all of us.” I saw how he dotted on Karma and spoiled her with gifts. He was also making up for his fuck ups.
“Well, she has a fine ass. Why wouldn’t I want to kiss it?” He chuckled.
“Touché.” I stopped at the corner of the Rochester’s street. “Hey, I’m here.”
“Anything look suspicious?”
“No. Looks like it did the last time I was here.’
“Wait for Bone and Easton before going in. Be smart and safe, bro. See you when you get back.”
“Okay.”
The call ended. Easton pulled the SUV beside me. I rolled down the window to talk to Bone, sitting in the passenger seat.
“You’re a crazy motherfucker,” he said, shaking his head.
“Learned how to be from my older brother.”
“Cobra wouldn’t appreciate that comment.”
I chuckled. “I meant you, dork.”
“Yeah, I know. So what’s your plan?” He jerked his chin at Reign’s house.
“I’m going to knock at the door and tell Mrs. Rochester to back a bag so I can take her to see Reign.”
“Okay. Sounds straightforward.”
“Yes.”
“Do you think she’ll come willingly? What about the husband?”
“He’s still at work.” I checked the time on the dashboard. “Alondra will come. She’s desperate to see Reign.”
“Alright then. Let’s do this. We’ll monitor you from the street and alley.”
I nodded and drove off. The driveway was empty, so I parked my truck there.
The door opened before I was able to knock, catching me off-guard.
“Jonah!” Alondra’s face beamed as she looked around me. “Where’s Reign?”
“I’m here to take you to her.”
“Is she in danger? She called, talking all kinds of nonsense about us being in danger and to come to the farm. I wasn’t sure whether to believe her or not. I wanted to discuss it with Bill before doing anything.”
