“I’ll take out the trash.” Jonah kicked the door a couple times, and Mason appeared. “I have an errand for you, prospect,” he grunted, dragging my dad outside.

I held my mom, stunned at the turn of events. I didn’t even care to know what Jonah planned to do toBill. I never wanted to see him again.

All I wanted after this ordeal was to be sure my mom was okay and make up with my man.

And definitely get dirty under the sheets.

An hour later, I was waiting for Jonah in the den. He’d texted me to be there when he returned, so I put Mom to bed with Granny and waited, not so patiently.

I heard footsteps, eyed the doorknob, and watched it slowly turn.

“Oh good, you’re awake,” he whispered, entering the room and locking the door behind him.

I nodded, emotion bubbling in my chest.

“How are you?” He tucked me into his side and kissed my head.

“I’ve been better.”

“Me too.”

“I don’t want to talk about anything. Just hold me.” My brain was overloaded. I needed comfort, not information.

“I’ll give you whatever you need.”

“Good. All I need is you.” I turned my face toward him, silently pleading for him to make love to me.

Jonah didn’t hesitate. He pushed me to lie on the couch and covered my body with his. We kissed frantically, undressing each other. Within seconds we were naked and fucking.

Not fucking.

Our movements were slow and soft. He penetrated me deeply, stealing my breath away.

He loved me unconditionally, perfectly, and completely.

Jonah was all I needed, and I would never give him again.

Stitch stared at me with a perplexed look. “You can’t leave yet. We need to watch for infection. What’s your rush?”

I ignored him, mustering the strength to get out of bed, get dressed, and hit the road by ten in the morning.

Stitch meant well. I knew he did, but I couldn’t stay in Fargo another day becauseshewould eventually come.

And I didn’t want to see her.

“In a few weeks, you can return to Montana. Be here for Christmas. It’s a time for family, you know.” Family meant everything to Stitch. I supposed it had to do with losing his parents when he was in middle school. He’d been with the Knight family for so long that he’d become an honorary member.

“I got stuff to do. Can’t leave my men on their own. The club is new.” Not really. All my guys were Knight’s Legion members. They were familiar with the way things were run and capable.

“Man, what’s going on? Did something happen between you and Lady M? You never missed a holiday. Whatever happened, ya gotta just get passed it. Life is too short.”

Life is too short. Don’t I know it.

But I didn’t appreciate him making me feel bad. I already beat myself up over how I treated Lady M and Cobra. Some days I hated both of them. Others, I didn’t know what I’d do without them.
