Jacob swallowed. It felt strange to know that owning a plane might count against him. Most people he knew either thought nothing of it because they had their own jet, or they thought it made him someone special because he had that kind of money. “I have a plane. It’ll only take us a few hours.”

He held his breath, waiting for her dad to react.

Her mom spoke first. “Well, that’s just great. I’m not sure what to think about you having your own plane, but I can tell you that I love the idea of you being able to get here in just a few hours.”

Becca grinned at him.

“Yeah,” said her dad. “I don’t know what to make of that either, but if it means we get to see you next weekend, Becca, and I get to meet you, Jacob, then I’ll go with it being a good thing – for now.”

“Thank you.”

“So, do you want to come on Friday or Saturday morning?” her mom asked.

Becca raised her eyebrows.

“I’d say Friday – the sooner the better – if that works for you.”

“That’ll be great.”

“And your name’s Jacob Jacobs?” her dad asked.

“That’s right, sir.” Jacob wasn’t surprised that he would want to see what he could find out about him after this conversation. “The company is Jacobs Estate.”

For the first time, he heard a smile in her dad’s voice. “Thanks. Anything else I need to look into about you?”

“Umm, I don’t think so, but if I think of anything, I’ll ask Becca to let you know.”

“Okay. You do that. Want to take us off the speaker thing, Becca? I’d like a word.”

“Okay.”

“Thanks for talking to me,” said Jacob.

“Same,” her dad answered.

“We’ll look forward to meeting you next weekend,” her mom added. “Let’s have a word with you now, Becs.”

Becca smiled at him as she picked her phone back up and held it to her ear.

Jacob pressed a kiss to her lips and then went to the study to pour them a drink. She’d probably want a moment to talk to them in private. And even though the call had gone as well as he could have hoped, he still felt like he needed a drink after it.

He was standing, staring out at the vineyards when Becca came into the study. She slid her arms around his waist and rested her cheek against his back.

“Thank you.”

He turned around and hugged her to him. “Thank you.”

She laughed. “What, for subjecting you to my parents?”

He looked down into her eyes. “That’s not how I see it. You weren’t subjecting me to them. The way I see it, we just took the first step toward becoming family.”

“Aww.”

He chuckled. “I heard what you were saying to your mom when I came in. If she wants to be a grandma, she’d better hope she likes me because she’s going to be a grandma to my kids –ourkids.”

Becca’s eyes sparkled as she looked up at him. “She is, and I can’t wait. I hope we have a whole herd of little boys with your big smile.”

Jacob almost choked. “A whole herd?”
