“He’s already got one. His son’s trying for a kid as we speak.”
“That’s where this gets interesting. Turns out George is shooting blanks.”
“You’re sure?”
“Got his medical records right in front of me, and that’s not all.”
“What else you got?”
“His messages to his friends. Hasn’t told Pop about the problem with his gun barrel.”
“Probably scared he’ll kill him.”
“The thing is, Marco, George mentioned something very interesting.”
“Get to the point, Alessandro.”
“You remember the rumor that Piper had a daughter?”
“I remember.”
“Turns out the rumor’s true. George mentioned a bastard sister. I did some digging, and she was the daughter of a hooker Piper was fucking. Threw her out years ago. Kid took her mom’s maiden name when she went into care.”
“Why are you telling me this?”
“Because when Piper finds out his son’s shooting blanks, he’s going to want to bring his daughter back into the fold, get her married off and having kids to secure things. I’m guessing to someone in the cartel, cement his trafficking trade over the border with a nice international family wedding.”
I smile for the first time since the fire. “Where is she?”
“On her way to your place right now.”
“You’re shitting me. You had her kidnapped?”
“I went one better than that. She’s coming for a job with you.”
“Say that again.”
He chuckles down the line. Maiden name was White. Ring any bells?”
I laugh too. “As in Anna White?”
“Fate wanted you to meet her yesterday, Marco. It’s almost too good to be true.”
I shake my head. “Piper paid her to bring me out of the bar so I could get shot. I should have known they were related.”
“I sincerely doubt she was working for him. She’s been estranged since she was five years old. No sign of any contact between the two of them at all since then and I delved deep for you.”
“So I’m supposed to believe it was just a coincidence she was at that bar last night? Chance? That it?”
“Destiny may have played right into your hands here, Marco. You thinking what I’m thinking?”
“I marry her and get her pregnant and then send her back to Daddy with her tail between her legs. He gets to enjoy thinking of me taking her innocence and snapping it like a twig.”
Alessandro laughs again. “One thing the cartel won’t take is a bride who’s been plucked.”
“That’s a polite way of putting it.”
“Piper gets to spend the rest of his life knowing you fucked his daughter and got her pregnant and you know the best thing of all?”
