“What’s that for?”

“A celebration.” He wiggled his brows and rolled down the window to pop the cork. A stream of foamy liquid ran down the side of the bottle, and he placed the two cups in my hands. “Remember the lawyer that stopped by earlier?”

“Yeah?” I said as I watched the bubbles dissolve in my cup.

He poured a little more and set the bottle in the large cup holder. “Well, he’s my divorce lawyer, and my divorce was officially finalized this morning.”

I knew he could sense the worry on my face because he pulled me into his chest and locked my gaze. “Oh.”

“Oh?” He questioned.

“I mean, I didn’t know you were–”

“I’ve been separated from my now very ex-wife for over five years. She’s a piece of work and took joy in dragging out our divorce for the sake of misery and trying to keep me unhappy.” He took a sip of the champagne and placed his hand on my cheek. “I’ve spent so much in a loveless marriage that I know exactly what I want, and it’s you.”

I sat back on his lap and contemplated his words as I fidgeted with the hem of my skirt. “Me?”

He gave a slow nod and leaned in. “All of you.”

* * *

I glazedover Daddy as he drove with one hand on the steering wheel and the other near his mouth. The same hand he wiped up my juices with before he forced me to taste them. I stole a glance of myself in the passenger side mirror. I wondered if anyone could tell I had just had the best orgasm ever. He made a sharp turn and pulled into the parking lot of Everything on a Stick.

“I’ve always wanted to try this,” I said as I perked up and unclasped my seatbelt.

He gently squeezed my thigh and opened the driver’s side door. I started to open my door but remembered I looked like a hot mess with wild hair and disheveled clothing. Before I could swing one leg out, Daddy was by my side. He grabbed my waist and picked me up. I couldn’t shake the fact that he was able to pick me up as if I weighed no more than a sheet of paper. He didn’t even blink when he did it.

“How much do you lift?” The words left my mouth before I had any decency to force them back down.

His brows drew together, “Is that what’s been on your mind the entire drive over?”

I rolled my shoulders and crossed one ankle over the other. “Not really. It just kind of popped into my head just now.”

The corners of his mouth lifted, sending my heart pitter-pattering against my ribcage. “I lift what I need to lift, baby girl.” He stepped closer and pulled me into his large chest, “You’re no exception to that.”

He placed his cowboy hat on his sparkling amber tresses and grabbed my hand before turning on his heels toward the entrance of the restaurant. It looked exactly how I imagined it would look once we stepped inside. Retro, with large marble tables covered in black and white photos of food on sticks. Their menu spanned the wall and was colored coded by food type. I thought about Breonna for a second and how she would be excited I finally made it to her favorite food spot. Daddy pulled me toward the order line.

“Have you been here before?” I asked as I craned my neck to look at the large menu.

“Nope.” He said sheepishly.

An older woman wearing a yellow smock and hat gave Daddy a warm smile. “Welcome back, Jude. Ah, I see you brought a friend this time.”

His eyes shined with mischief as he turned to face me, and I couldn’t help but blurt out a giggle.

I folded my arms across my chest and raised a brow. “I thought you’ve never been here before?”

“Did I say that?” He held out his hand and tugged me closer to the counter.

He placed my back to his chest and wrapped his arms around my waist. He held me tight, almost as if he was afraid to let me go.

“Yes, you did.” I reminded him as I looked up at the menu once more.

“Alright. What is the lady having?” The woman said with enthusiasm.

“Umm, I think I’ll have the corndog and medium chili fry.”

“Perfect, and Jude, I know your order.” She said before walking away.
