Page 111 of Until Him

Theo tucks himself further into me as we make our way upstairs, the wood creaking beneath our feet, and then we climb into bed together. He doesn’t even fight it. He lets me hold him snug against me, and I’m pretty sure the smile is still on my face when I fall asleep.

* * *

We spend the rest of the weekend together, hanging out with Finn, my brother, and my parents, and Theo seemed to fit right in. He even helped my dad with weeding the vegetable patch and feeding the chickens. One evening, he showed us all a few chemistry experiments with stuff from the kitchen—something called non-Newtonian liquid—that my dad went wild for. One of them exploded everywhere, and even Finn cracked a smile

Theo positively beamed. I could tell he was happy to win everyone over.

Not that he had to try that hard. When he takes down all those prickly guards of his, he’s sweet and irresistible. I want to eat him up, in every possible way.

Friday morning, my dad convinced Theo to go to a 4-H fair to look at the livestock. Theo had been reluctant at first, but I’d basically pushed him out the door. The guy needs to get out more and socialize.

I don’t know how the socializing went but they did come home with a pygmy goat.

My dad named him Vincent.

He is a cute motherfucker. My mom was pissed, but I still caught her talking to him like a baby. She can’t fool me. She’s just as much of a softie as my dad.

But my favorite part about this weekend was nighttime, when the house was completely quiet, I’d pull Theo into me, holding him against my naked chest. We didn’t fuck again after that time in the greenhouse, but I sure as hell kissed him, long and desperate until we both fell asleep, horny and needy.

We never did get to use the clamps, much to my disappointment. But later. We’ll do that later.

I have plans for us.

When Saturday evening rolled around, we packed our bags and got ready to leave.

Half of that process involved chasing Curie around the whole damn house. She didnotwant to leave, and she yowled in protest the entire way home.

My dad cried a bit when we said goodbye and made Theo promise to bring her to visit again. He then proceeded to squeeze Theo so tightly that his ribs made popping sounds.

I may have gotten a little defensive, because I don’t want anyone to actually hurt him, so I pulled him away from my dad and tucked him into my side.

He wrapped his arm around my waist and nestled into me, like he belonged there.

I had a hard time driving us home when all I wanted to do was pull him against me. It really made me rethink those bucket seats in my car; I should have gone with a bench so Theo could plaster himself to me.

“Thank you,” Theo says, pulling my thoughts back to him.

I’m idling in a parking spot outside his apartment. We spent the whole drive home with our fingers interlocked.

“You’re welcome. They all loved you, you know?”

His eyes are glassy and he looks out the windshield.

“I haven’t been around family in so long.”

“Well, then I’m glad you came. I think they like you better than me at this point. My parents practically adopted you.”

“Don’t say that,” he whispers, shaking his head. “Don’t say that, Logan.”

“Why not?” My eyebrows meet and I’m genuinely confused.

He’s silent for a moment, like he’s considering whether or not to answer me. Finally, he murmurs, “Don’t dangle something like that in front of me, if there’s a chance it will be taken away.”

He sniffs, dabbing under his eyes with his sleeve, and I tighten my hold on his hand.

“Never.”

“You can’t promise that.”
