“Did you make it home safe?” Landon asks.

“Yeah, made it home safe. You turning into mom or something?” I ask, jogging down the stairs and toward my car.

“I think Finn is rubbing off on me, actually.”

What kind of rubbing, I think, but don’t mention it. When they’re ready, they’ll tell me what’s really going on.

Although, I think Finn is more into this than my brother. Landon seems a little clueless, to be honest.

I wrench my car door open and take one last look at the apartment complex that Theo lives in and sigh.

Yeah, Theo. I’ll take the hint.

I’ll try and leave you alone.

THEO

Logan isquiet when he enters my apartment two nights later, and I feel the absence of his sunshine immediately. I’ve grown used to it, his bright energy that lights up the room. And I know that I’m the reason it’s been snuffed out. I’m the dark cloud in his life now.

“Hello,” I say and fidget with my pencil.

My journal is almost full since meeting him.

I need to buy another one.

“Hey,” he says glumly, lowering himself onto the floor in front of my bed.

He didn’t show up yesterday and that’s when I knew things were wrong. I shouldn’t have bailed on him after letting him fuck me, but I needed to.

The way he touched my face, the way he felt beneath me.

That was the best sex of my life.

I am never getting over this man.

He is goodness personified and I am just too broken for someone like him.

“You didn’t come by yesterday,” I say, hurt lining my words, despite my efforts.

“Yeah, I had plans. I texted you.”

Yeah, he did. It was impersonal and so brief that I spent the night under my covers trying to forget him. But my ass and my heart wouldn’t let me.

Now here he is, but he’s not the same man I left on the bed two nights ago.

“Logan,” I say, lowering myself down next to him. Our knees knock and Logan swallows a little before scooting away.

“Please don’t be mad at me,” I say so softly my words nearly evaporate into the space between us.

“I’m not mad. I’m just…nothing. I feelnothing.”

My heart clenches at that and I feel my eyes begin to sting. “That’s not true.”

“Nah. It is, Theo. I got the hint,” he says. “You’ve told me a shit ton of times and I finally get it. This is just transactional. Tutoring for sex. Nothing more.”

I wet my lips and his eyes catch on the movement, but then they drop to the floor.
