Kincaid looked over at Stone. “I’m not throwing shade at you, Stone,” she said. “I’m just telling the facts of the story.”

“Yeah, I get that,” he practically growled. “Still, can we skip that part.”

“Remorse is a bitch, ain’t it,” Rylee remarked cheerfully.

She was so cute that even Kincaid chuckled at that. “As I was saying, when this all started, all August had to get past was Stone. Then you guys all started to side with him. Once that became obvious, well now he had all four of you to battle if he wanted Rylee.” Kincaid looked around at all of us. “Then Ross and Sutton got together, and though her name isn’t as powerful as all of yours-”

“Just ours?” Fox asked, a brow arched.

Kincaid rolled her eyes. “Anyway, Ross got together with Sutton, adding one more person on our side. Laney’s out, so it stands to reason that Sutton would begin to hang out with Rylee and me, clearly putting her in the enemy’s camp.”

“Hastings’ last name is up there,” I surmised.

She looked over at me. “Exactly,” she agreed. “When you posted those pictures of you and Hastings, especially with that caption of how Hastings Voss was a great name, all you did was show him that we just added another person on our team. A Martin, no less.”

“He’s woefully outnumbered now,” Stone remarked.

Kincaid looked over at Sutton. “No offense, Sutton, but attacking you wouldn’t have made the same statement that attacking Hastings did. By attacking Hastings, August is pretty much telling us all that he doesn’t care who we are or who are families are. He’s trying to prove that we’re not untouchable.”

“And he proved it, no?” Rylee asked.

“Not really,” I countered. “We made the mistake of putting all our eggs in one Rylee basket. We were only focused on you. While Ross and I made sure to tell Sutton and Hastings to stay away from August and Laney, it never occurred to me that he’d actually attack one of you. I was certain it’d be Rylee.”

“We all were,” Ross agreed. “We are untouchable. We just happened to drop the ball on this one.”

“So, what do we do now?” Sutton asked. “I mean, we all still have classes and lives to deal with, right? How do we do that and keep Hastings safe?”

“Well, since Hastings isn’t going anywhere for a few days, she’ll be fine,” I replied. “As for you and Rylee, Stone’s PI will be here before Monday, so I say we make him obvious on day one.”

“I like that,” Ross remarked.

“But the man needs to eat and sleep,” Kincaid pointed out. “So, what do we do about that?”

“He only needs to keep an eye on August during the day,” Stone replied. “After classes, Rylee isn’t leaving my fucking sight.”

“Same here,” Ross quickly agreed. “I’ll have Sutton with me at all times after classes.”

I looked at Kincaid. “And you know Hastings will be glued to my side now.”

Kincaid nodded, her eyes narrowed in thought. “Okay,” she muttered, thinking out loud. “That’ll work.”

Fox leaned forward in his seat. “And what about you?”

Kincaid looked over at him. “What about me?”

His head reared back a bit. “If August is feeling threatened, and our last names are beginning to intimidate him, then what about you?”

“I can take care of myself, Harrington,” she replied “Besides, unlike Sutton, Rylee, and Hastings, I know what I’m dealing with.” She quickly looked over at the girls. “No offense.”

“None taken,” Sutton grumbled.

“I’m good,” Rylee quickly responded.

“You are out of your mind if you think you’re going to walk around unprotected, Black,” Fox told her. “I don’t give a fuck how badass you think you are.”

“Think I am?” she snorted. “Please.” The bad thing about her snideness was that she wasn’t lying. Kincaid was badass.

Fox stood up, clearly done with her bullshit. “Fine,” he spat. “Get the shit beat out of you. Lord knows I don’t give a fuck.” He stormed out of Kincaid’s condo before anyone of us could say anything.

After a few tense seconds, I said, “Babe-”

“Don’t,” she snapped. “You have bigger issues to deal with than Fox Harrington’s bullshit.”

“I don’t care about his bullshit. I care about yours,” I corrected.

Before she could reply, Stone was muttering, “I need a fucking drink.”

“I think we all need a damn drink,” Sutton agreed.

However, there wasn’t enough alcohol in the world to make us forget this fucked-up mess.
