Chapter 7

Fox~

I was in a shit mood, and I wasn’t sure if it was because I felt slightly hungover or if it was because I was destined to be in a shit mood for the rest of my life.

I was doing my best not to take it out on everyone around me, but like bad fucking luck, today seemed to be the day when everyone wanted to talk to me. I’d even snapped at a guy that I was cool with and was sort of connected to through Sutton. Malcolm House was dating Sutton’s best friend, Delta Landry, but Malcom and I had been cool way before that connection had been made. Still, when he had tried to bullshit with me earlier, I had brushed him off. So, the last thing that I needed was Alexis Wyatt getting on my goddamn nerves with her nonsense.

“I’m just saying that it wouldn’t hurt for us to hang out more, Fox,” she whined, and it made me question why I had chosen her for my supporter in the first place.

Trying to rein in my irritation, I asked, “Did you not learn anything from what happened with Jennifer? In fact, I recently heard that she had some sort of meltdown and that she left HU. Is that what you’re gunning for, Alexis?”

Her cornflower blue eyes widened. “It’s not the same thing,” she argued. “I’m not trying to break up anyone’s relationship.”

“The principles of the contract still apply, Alexis,” I told her. “We’re not friends. We have a contract between us. Nothing more and nothing less.”

“Why do you have to be so cold about it?” she huffed.

“Because I don’t have time for misunderstandings or any confusion on your part,” I bit out. “If I need you, you’ll be the first person to know. Outside that, we have nothing to talk about, Alexis.”

“I just don’t see the harm in becoming friends, Fox,” she tried again, and I could feel myself tipping over the edge.

“Look, Alexis,” I hissed. “I don’t need to explain myself to you. Know your place and fucking stay there.” I took off before she could prattle off any more nonsense.

Ever since Ross’s wedding to Sutton, Alexis has been texting more or just making herself more visible. I wasn’t sure why, though. The Order rules had been made pretty clear on initiation night, and romantic relationships were forbidden between a sponsor and his supporter unless a Hera contract was signed. Well, I most definitely had not signed a Hera contract with Alexis. In fact, my lack of attraction to her had been one of the main reasons that I had chosen her as my supporter.

So, I wasn’t sure what was going on with her lately, but she was out of her mind if she thought we’d be anything more than what was between us in that contract. If the girl was too stupid not to realized that she’d been invited to those weddings as a part of the organization and not my fucking date, well, then, that was my bad for choosing someone stupid and not doing better research on the girl.

With my head spinning with Alexis’s nonsense, my hangover that hasn’t gone away, and thoughts of killing Kincaid with my bare hands and just putting myself out of this misery, I hadn’t seen August until it was too late.

Too late for him.

The sonofabitch grinned at me, and my book bag was off my shoulders before I could take another step. “You motherfucker,” I snarled.

“Ah, ah, ah,” he sing-songed. “Are you forgetting about my new friend?” He pointed to his left, and when I turned to see what the fuck he was talking about, I saw Elias with his hands in his pockets, looking like any other student at UH.

When I turned back around to face August, I said, “He’s on our side.”

The piece of shit kept on grinning. “Hey, if you don’t mind someone owning pictures of the great Fox Harrington assaulting someone, then let’s have at it.”

As much as I trusted Stone, August was right on this one. I didn’t know his PI or Elias beyond that Stone used them for delicate assignments. I didn’t need anything coming back to haunt me later. Especially, if the plan was the Supreme Court.

“Laugh it up, Remington,” I spat. “But you’re going to get yours.”

He cocked his head. “When?” he taunted. “Because from my point of view, you guys sure are a lot of talk.”

I leaned in closer, not wanting anyone to hear what I was about to say. “The only reason you’re still alive is because Saxton is making Hastings a priority, you motherfucker.”

His brows shot up in mock surprise. “Whatever are you talking about? Did something happen to the beautiful Hastings Martin?”

Ignoring him, I said, “Only a little bitch gets off on hurting women.”

August stiffened at that. “You guys are forgetting just who the fuck I am,” he bragged. “I’d be careful if I were you guys.”

I let out a dark laugh. “We know exactly who and what you are, Remington. You’re the dickless little bitch who couldn’t seal the deal with Rylee and isn’t a match for Stone Lexington,” I sneered. “So, instead of slinking away like the cunt you are, you’re attacking other women.”

“Fuck you,” he snarled, and he did it with so much emotion that spittle flew from his mouth. Rylee really was his Achilles heel.

“I have news for you, Remington,” I continued. “You’re going to get yours and soon. It’s only a matter of who is going to do the honors.”
