“He said to give him until the end of the week,” Stone replied. “As much as I want to force the issue, rushed supposition isn’t going to do us any good.”

I glanced at all their faces. “I have a question.”

“What?” Ross asked.

“Who gets to kill him?” Everyone’s eyes started shooting every which way. “I mean, I think this Halloween plan has potential, but we need a plan for how to handle him once he comes home. Plus, what if he brings someone home with him? What if Laney’s with him? Do we kill everyone?”

Stone ran his hands down his face. “Yes,” he answered. “Let’s just kill them all.”

I chuckled at the seriousness in his voice.

The man wasn’t kidding.

“Look, in all honesty, if anyone should kill him, it should probably be me. I’m the only one who doesn’t have a wife to look after,” I told them. “And though it’s not as personal for me as it is for you guys, that actually works in our favor. Out of the four of us, I’m the last person Alexander would suspect. As far as he’s concerned, I don’t have a dog in this fight.”

“He put his hands on my wife,” Saxton stressed between a clenched jaw. “If anyone gets to kill him, it should be me.”

“Hey, I’m not arguing that the right is yours,” I clarified. “I’m just saying that there’s no wife being left behind if I get caught.”

“As if you’re going to get caught,” Ross snorted.

“Besides, us having wives doesn’t make you expendable, Harrington,” Saxton chimed in. “If we do this, everyone comes out of this unscathed, or we don’t do it at all.”

I didn’t necessarily agree with him, but there was no point in arguing with the guy. I also had no desire to go to prison, but I had the least to lose here. There was also the security of knowing that my father was a federal judge. The odds of me actually doing time were very slim. The risk wasn’t quite has daring as it might seem.

“So, if we’re not killing Remington tomorrow night, what are we doing?” I asked.

“Hastings wants to stay in,” Saxton answered. “She’s afraid that if we run into August that I’ll kill him. She’s under the illusion that bumping into him at school will somehow keep me calm. You know, a controlled environment and all that.”

Stone chuckled. “Sounds like your wife has a lot to learn about you.”

Saxton just grinned.

I looked over at Ross. “What about you guys?”

“Honestly, I don’t want to take the chance of running into Remington, either.” He let out a deep sigh. “I don’t even want him looking at Sutton, you know.”

“Oh, I know,” Stone chimed in. “I feel the same way about Rylee. If we’re not killing him tomorrow night, then me and Rylee are just going to stay home. So far, she’s managed to avoid him, but I could see myself breaking his neck if he so much as spoke to her.”

“I don’t think any of us are in the frame of mind to be out in public right now,” Saxton added. “At least, not tomorrow night.”

Ross jerked his chin my way. “What about you?”

“If we’re not killing Remington tomorrow night, then I’ll probably hit up Curtis Barker’s party. Alexis texted me about it earlier this week.” Three sets of eyes just stared at me. “What?”

“Mixing a little business with pleasure, Harrington?” Stone asked, a smirk on his face.

“Hell, no,” I scoffed. “The whole reason why I chose Alexis was because I wasn’t attracted to her. Yeah, she’s pretty, but her personality reminds me of stale bread.”

Ross choked out a laugh. “Wow.”

“Does she know that?” Saxton asked knowingly.

“I’m not sure what’s going on with her lately, but she knows,” I assured him. “I’ve made my position clear. Still, it wouldn’t hurt to keep an eye on her. If nothing else, I should make sure that she’s not consorting with the enemy.”

“Good point,” Stone agreed.

“Well, if anything pops off, just call us,” Ross said, and it still surprised me a bit how close we’ve become in such a short amount of time. I guess having a common enemy helped.

“Will do,” I replied.

Hopefully, nothing popped off.
