Chapter 9

Fox~

I couldn’t do this anymore.

I felt like I was going crazy, and I needed to keep my head in the game. This ugly thing between me and Kincaid was fucking me up something fierce, and I was done slamming my head against a brick wall.

I had to be.

Shaking off my thoughts, I took another drink of my whiskey, and it wasn’t lost on me how much I’d been drinking lately.

Two bars in town already knew me by sight.

“So, now he’s after Kincaid,” Ross scoffed. “What the fuck are we waiting for? Seriously?”

“I say we have Elias watch the girls tomorrow night, dress up, then hunt the motherfucker down,” Saxton added. “It’ll be perfect.”

Tomorrow was Halloween night, and Saxton had a good point. With so many people wearing costumes, it would be practically impossible to identify any of us if we were dressed up. Plus, Halloween was a prime night for crime exactly for that reason.

“I’m game,” Stone replied. “We’d just need to know where he is to know how to find him.”

“You know, it’s actually very doable,” Ross remarked thoughtfully. “And we’d just have him come to us.”

“How?” Stone asked.

“August doesn’t live in a condominium building like the rest of us do,” Ross replied. “He lives in a house on Tartan. We can check social media for any parties on that street and if there are, we can move through the crowds undetected.” He shrugged. “I say we break in, wait for him to come home, then kill the fucker. We can sneak right back out, and no one would think the wiser of a group of people wandering around covered up with masks.”

“You have to know that Remington had a security system,” I pointed out, though not entirely against the plan. I had enough rage coursing through my veins to justify killing the bastard.

“Kincaid can bypass it,” Saxton announced, and we all turned to look at him.

“Come again,” I replied.

Saxton let out a sigh before glancing back down the hallway. We were all gathered at his place because the poor guy was loathed to let Hastings out of the house until we had this whole August thing under control. Meaning, until he was dead.

So, while we were all gathered in the living room, Hastings was in their bedroom, catching up on some of her classwork. Rylee and Sutton were at Kincaid’s because her building was the only one that had buzzed-in access. Plus, Elias had agreed to sit and watch the place until the guys went back to get their wives.

“Are you telling us that Kincaid is a goddamn hacker?” Stone asked, making sure to keep his voice low. It wasn’t that we didn’t trust Hastings, but this was some serious shit if it were true.

Saxton grimaced a bit. “Well, she can’t hack into our military servers or anything crazy like that, but…well, the girl’s talented.”

“Oh, that’s one way to describe it,” Ross quipped.

I let out a laugh that bordered a little on the insane side. “Of course, she can hack into security systems,” I drawled out. “Why wouldn’t she be able to do such a thing?”

“Christ, who is this girl?” Stone muttered.

“Fuck, if I know,” I answered honestly, ignoring the look that Saxton shot my way. Whatever he thought he knew about me and Kincaid, he was wrong.

Getting back to the topic at hand, Ross asked, “Can she do it without getting caught? That’s the question.”

“Seriously,” Stone added. “This is August Remington we’re planning on killing. His murder is not going to fall to the bottom of the pile. His family will demand answers, and the police will do their damnedest to get them. A case like this will be investigated to death. No pun intended.”

“Not to mention that The Order will get involved,” I chimed in. “As soon as Alexander hears about it, he’s going to know it was us.”

“He’s going to think it was us,” Saxton corrected. “Remember, it’s all about proof.”

I looked over at Stone. “Any word from Chicago yet?”
