“Same here,” Ross added, passing me the folder. “We’re not exactly starving, struggling, broke artists trying to make it on Broadway. Our families are too wealthy and too prominent to let us fail. The Order’s help has always just been a bonus.”

I jerked my chin towards Saxton. “What about you? How would you feel?”

There was a glint in his grey eyes, and I hated that he shared a secret with Kincaid. Granted, they probably shared a shitload of secrets since they’ve been best friends since the second grade, but this was something different. Something outside what normal friends shared. The fucked-up part of all this was that I liked Saxton Voss. He was a good dude, and I was going to have to find a way around this dark emotion that I was feeling when it came to him and Kincaid.

Like she’d said, he was off-limits.

“Considering my career choice, as far as I’m concerned, they would need me more than I would need them,” he answered. “Same as you guys, all that being a part of the organization was going to do was make things easier. Still, same as you guys, hard work doesn’t intimidate me.”

“So, what’s next?” Ross asked. “Where do we go from here?”

“I still want August dead,” Saxton quickly replied. “As far as I’m concerned, Alexander fucking his father is a separate issue.”

“I agree,” Stone remarked. “Rylee will never be safe as long as August isn’t dead.”

“We could always set up a suicide,” I told them. “We expose the scandal, and in the midst of the chaos, poor, distraught, heartbroken, humiliated August Remington kills himself.” I grinned. “Sounds very no-need-to-investigate plausible.”

“That’s not a bad idea,” Ross muttered thoughtfully.

“Except, for one little thing,” Saxton chimed in. “If we expose Alexander’s secret, The Order is going to be watching every move we make.” He looked at each one of us. “We’ve already got them on edge with all that’s happened so far. We’ve been making moves without their permission or approval, so I can’t see them not taking this opportunity to make us pay for thumbing our noses at their authority.”

“Fuck, he’s got a point,” I swore. “I know my father, and there’s no way every member won’t be put on some sort of surveillance.”

“Yeah,” Stone agreed. “My father doesn’t fuck around, either.”

“Why don’t we give Alexander until Monday to present his report on August, then go from there,” Saxton suggested. “If we don’t like what he presents to us, we can slap him in the face with the folder.”

“But we’re still killing Remington, right?” Stone asked.

A hard spark flashed in Saxton’s eyes. “You’re goddamn right we are.”

Before anything more could be said about killing August, Ross looked over at me. “What’s this I hear about you hauling Kincaid Black out of another party, Harrington? You got a death wish or something?” Even though no one had been stupid enough to record us last night, we still couldn’t stop people from talking.

“Seriously,” Stone snorted. “You’re safer going out and playing in traffic. Blindfolded.”

“Don’t worry about me,” I drawled out. “I can handle Kincaid Black.”

“Said no man ever,” Ross chuckled, and I just flipped him off.

“The man knows what he’s doing,” Saxton remarked, supporting my insanity.

“Dude, no man knows what he’s doing when it comes to women,” Stone replied, and the man wasn’t wrong.
