Chapter 19

Kincaid~

Though I wasn’t condoning it, I understood the motive behind manslaughter when it happened in a fit of rage. Had Fox not walked over to save me from myself, I would have killed Donovan Cooper on the spot. I still wanted to kill him. I’d rather he be dead than in prison, but Fox being there with me had changed things significantly.

Fox wasn’t my best friend, vowing to stand by me until the bitter end. He wasn’t someone who has known me since the second grade. He wasn’t someone who shared a lifetime of memories with me. He wasn’t even a family member who might feel obligated to support me in all this.

Fox was a guy in love with me enough to risk his entire future for. All this talk about killing Donovan, and possibly Alexander and Jacob, and he wasn’t afraid to go to prison for me if that’s what ends up happening.

When Fox started talking about having a hoard of little girls, I realized that I could have both my revenge and a future with Fox if I were willing to compromise on my need for justice. Giving Donovan an option that didn’t result in his death had been the right thing to do for everyone involved.

However, killing him was still on the table.

After we’d left Donovan to make the biggest decision of his life, Fox had made good on his promise to bend me over the hood of his car, and it had been the hottest thing ever. Luckily, we hadn’t gotten caught, but I wasn’t sure that I would have made him stop if we had. I’d had a lot of pent-up homicidal energy coursing through my body, and the rough fuck on his car had been perfect.

The plan had been to go home and feed our addictions some more, but Saxton had called to find out what happened, and that led to us all meeting at Stone’s. Apparently, he’d been working on finding out what he could from his father, not caring about how it might look for him as an initiating member.

So, now we were all gathered at Stone’s place to discuss what to do next. I’d gone first and had told them everything about our visit with Donovan, and the guys looked impressed while the girls looked sick to their stomachs. It wasn’t that they were judging me, but women were natural worriers. We were more concerned with the ‘what ifs’ than men were, I think.

We were all gathered in the living room, everyone coupled up, and it painted a sweet picture, really. Especially, Stone and Rylee. Again, the way he treated her was really adorable, considering his disposition. Hastings kept eyeing my neck, and it was hard not to laugh. I knew my neck and chest looked brutal, but it wasn’t anything that Saxton hasn’t done to her. The only difference was that my marks were visibly more brutal than what the girls were used to. I looked like I’d been beaten.

Stone jerked his chin towards the three folders on the coffee table. “So, I called my dad last night, told him that I needed everything he had on Alexander, Jacob, and Donovan. He sent that over, but it’s not much,” he said. “Most of it we already knew. However, I took what was in those folders and put Chicago on digging up whatever else he can on them.”

“What did your dad have to say about you asking?” Saxton asked.

“Of course, he wanted to know why I was asking, but I was able to convince him that it was simply curiosity on my part. With everything that happened with August, I told him that I had little faith in the ability of my initiating panel.”

I reached for the first folder on top, and it was Alexander’s information. Flipping through the pages, I could see that Stone was right. It was a basic summary of someone’s life that any person could get off the internet. It also had his lineage, though. It was everything that made him worthy of a member. His net worth was on here, too.

I looked up at Stone. “Did he mention August?”

Stone threw me a sexy smirk. “Of course, he did. He also said that you were a loose cannon.” I could hear Fox chuckle softly next to me. “When I pointed out that August was a result of their failures, not ours, he kind of backed down a bit.”

“Well, that helped sell the story of you not having any faith in the initiating panel,” Ross chimed in. “However, if one or all of them end up dead, your dad might look at you for it.”

Stone leaned back in his chair, his arms tightening around Rylee. She was sitting on his lap, and he was perfectly fine with her being there. “Maybe that’s the key,” he said.

“What do you mean?” Saxton asked.

“Well, I’ve questioned my father about them, you’ve met with Jacob and Donovan to question them about Alexander…” Stone shrugged. “If we all make noise, how can they pin it on one person?”

“You want to muddy up the waters?” Fox asked.

“It makes sense,” Ross said. “With no proof, but all of us questioning their competency, they’ll have to put their resources into investigating us all.”

“All but the girls,” I clarified. “The girls stay out of it. We agreed.”

“But…we have a stake in this, too,” Hastings argued. “In fact, it was August who hurt me, harassed Sutton, and went after Rylee. Wouldn’t it look strange for everyone to have complaints with the panel but us?”

“Hastings has a point,” Ross muttered.

“Well, it’s not going to come to that,” I pointed out. “You guys are all a last resort. You might be questioned, but without any evidence, that’s all it’ll be. Your last names will protect you more than anything else.”

“Do you really think Donovan will give himself up willingly?” Sutton asked.

I shook my head. “No,” I answered honestly. “The only hope he has of surviving this is for Alexander and Jacob to turn on him while they try to save themselves. If not, I’m ending them all.”

“Have you approached Jacob yet?” Stone asked.
