“I’m sorry,” I say simply. “In all honesty, I got scared. I have never been in that kind of position before.” I look over my shoulder at Geani who is looking in every direction but my own. “I was raped. Flat out. I was forced to submit to a terrible monster who then used a switchblade on me after I said no. I had no choice.”

They all look at me as though I just told the scariest story of all time. I’m guessing Geani didn’t know that part because she also looks terrified. Leeah’s eyes glaze over with emotion at my words. At my confession.

But they each sink back and remain silent, now allowing me to continue talking.

“It was awful. In every way you can possibly imagine and I didn’t know what else to do. So, I did the only thing I’m good at. I ran.”

Megan looks up at me. Some of the anger has faded away and she looks as though she’s taking in everything I’m saying.

“I would never do anything to hurt you girls,” I say, lifting my hands to my chest. “You’re really all I have. You’re it. My only family is sitting in this room right here.” I look over my shoulder at Geani. “Including this bitch behind me.”

Amanda, Leeah, and Megan’s eyes all grow wide and look at Geani. Geani chuckles and the other three seem confused.

“I don’t know what all Geani told you, but I basically beat the shit out of her in the parking lot outside the club.” Geani nods behind me when I look to her for confirmation. My three friends all share a look of complete shock.

“You did?” Leeah asks, examining Geani for signs of cuts.

Geani points to the blood on her shirt and Leeah’s eyes grow wide.

“How bad?” Amanda asks in a way that tells Geani she hopes it hurt.

“Pretty bad,” Geani admits. “I was pinned to the pavement with blood running from my nose.”

Megan smirks at this and I feel a bit of the weight fall from my shoulders.

“She’s lucky to be alive, really,” I say, making Amanda and Leeah chuckle. Megan stays stone faced at my comment and I know I need to up my game. I need to bring out the full truth, as well as my intentions.

“The fighting aside, I need you girls to know that I’m sorry,” I continue. “I hate that I ran away without telling you. I hate that I wasn’t there for you when I said I would be. I’m sorry that I hurt you.” I pause and take a second to look at each of them. Leeah is softening her glare, Amanda is staring at her feet, analyzing everything I say - just like a lawyer would do. And Megan continues to stare at her shoes.

“But I need your help,” I say in a tone that has even Megan looking up at me. “I was hurt. Hurt by the same man that has put his hands on Geani time and time again. A man that deserves everything he gets if my plan goes through smoothly.”

“Plan?” Geani asks. “Against Dorion?” Her voice hitches as she says his name.

“Dorion?” Megan echoes. “As in, one of the richest men in the city?”

I shake my head.

“He’s the one that did this to you?” Amanda asks, tilting her head.

I nod. “The one and only.”

“And he’s been doing this to you?” Leeah asks Geani. I can tell she’s warming up to her now that she has some dirt on her. I guess that’s how women connect. Through grief. Feeling sorry enough for their enemies that they eventually take them in and become the mother hen to protect them.

Why is that a thing?

“I just want him to get a rightful punishment,” I say. “And I want justice for the women he’s hurt. I’m sure Geani and myself aren’t the only two this has happened to.”

Leeah and Amanda look at each other, but my focus is on Megan as she stands up from the couch and says, “You’re not.”

My jaw drops. Geani lets out a whimper and rushes over to Megan, wrapping her arms around her and apologizing for what she’d gone through. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe after all this time, Megan had gone through the exact same thing.

I suppose that explains why she’s been silent through most of this conversation.

“Megan, no,” I whisper as a tear forms in the corner of my eye. I grab my chest and my head falls. “Not you.”

I look back up at her and watch as she takes Geani into her arms. Amanda and Leeah form a circle around them, hugging them both and crying at the confession from Megan.

Apparently she too wasn’t sure where to go after facing Dorion.
