CHAPTER 14

Everyone around thetable looked stunned. Then in unison, everyone rose and bowed to the Demigod of Death, except for me.

Everyone withdrew a few steps to give him a wide berth as he approached me.

“Héctor?” I called in alarm. “What are you doing here?”

His gaze never left me, as if he didn’t see anyone else but me.

“Are you having fun, lamb?” he asked, his voice rich and sexy, and I felt my panties had just melted, despite all the shifters around the table.

I hoped that they couldn’t smell my arousal. People had a habit of sniffing at me, and nothing good had ever come of it.

But then, I wasn’t the only one who was affected by the presence of the death demigod. The girls stared at him adoringly. Their lust was palpable, even though their beta had just warned everyone that no one could have this demigod.

“Yes?” I stuttered before I recollected myself. “Look, I’m having salad. Nat insists on us eating more vegetables. You should practice that, too.”

Everyone at the table gasped. One didn’t just offer a demigod a diet suggestion with that tone.

“This Nat should be encouraged,” Héctor said with a stunning, amused smile.

Based on the collective moan, I believed Nat and those poor girls at the tables all around us were going to faint. I darted a quick glance at Nat, and I was right. He was blushing furiously.

“I’ll make all sorts of salads for you, lamb,” Héctor said, “since I plan to cook for you.”

Surprised murmurs erupted around me. Even I was shocked. No one had said the death demigod could cook.

“Cook—cook forme?” I widened my eyes like an idiot. “You know how?” I asked the question on everyone’s mind.

“Of course, lamb,” he said softly, his gloved hand reaching for me. “I happen to be an excellent chef.”

I gazed up at him dreamily.

“Careful, Marigold!” Jasper called in alarm.

The shifter pulled his chair back, ready to charge toward us and put himself between the death demigod and me.

Before Jasper could get there, Héctor’s hands cupped my cheeks, and he bent down to brush his lips over mine, hot and slow and sensual.

I kissed him back vehemently.

I couldn’t help myself when he kissed me like that.

He pulled away with a satisfied, pure male smile, and my stupid heart seemed to have grown fluttering wings.

Shocked silence rippled across the hall.

“These are—” I jerked a thumb toward my table. “These are all my friends, some old, some new. They’re good supernaturals.”

None of the girls at the table paid attention to my introduction. They gazed up at Héctor in rapt fascination, despite that he’d just kissed me.

He nodded at them in general before fixing his whole attention on me again, heat brewing in his sapphire eyes.
